1. I'm just weird
I don't view abortion as a moral issue. An economic issue? A convenience issue? A family planning issue? Sure.
There are a lot of reasons that women have abortions.
I know quite a few "moral republicans" who would whisk their underage daughters away for an abortion in the dead of night while fighting against your daughter having one during the light of day.
If everyone would just take a huge dose of MYOFB, this world would be so much better off.

4. I agree, but I know I'm in the minority
and as long as we live in a country where people are free to think what they want, then that means I'm going to have to deal with them from their point of view.

2. For many people they do
And I'm fine with that. As long as they don't legislate their morality.

3. When you're talking to Christian people
yes you're going to talk about the moral issues that come from the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Maybe all the women at DU who say they would never have an abortion will tell you the moral issues.

5. What are the moral issues?
I believe that morals are emotional responses and therefor moral issues are emotional issues.

6. Here are some answers
Abortion Was Legal

Abortion has been performed for thousands of years, and in every society that has been studied. It was legal in the United States from the time the earliest settlers arrived. At the time the Constitution was adopted, abortions before "quickening" were openly advertised and commonly performed.

Making Abortion Illegal
In the mid-to-late 1800s states began passing laws that made abortion illegal. The motivations for anti-abortion laws varied from state to state. One of the reasons included fears that the population would be dominated by the children of newly arriving immigrants, whose birth rates were higher than those of "native" Anglo-Saxon women.

<snip>

The Medical Establishment
The strongest force behind the drive to criminalize abortion was the attempt by doctors to establish for themselves exclusive rights to practice medicine. They wanted to prevent "untrained" practitioners, including midwives, apothecaries, and homeopaths, from competing with them for patients and for patient fees.

<snip>

Liberalization of Abortion Laws

Between 1967 and 1973 one-third of the states liberalized or repealed their criminal abortion laws. However, the right to have an abortion in all states was only made available to American women in 1973 when the Supreme Court struck down the remaining restrictive state laws with its ruling in Roe v. Wade.

Abortion History

As to same-sex marriages:

You want a moral issue? Why should other people be able to force me to live according to their religious beliefs (which they often don't even live up to themselves)?

7. Why are abortion and gay marriage almost always linked together?
They would seem to be completely separate matters. Or do the moralists believe same-sex sex leads to unwanted pregnancy?
