What happens if we withdraw our troops and there is a civil war there similar to the civil war that rocked Lebanon in the 1970s?

1. True to form, we will have to decide which side to fund.... and I don't
believe it will be the side that Iran is tight with.... so do the math. Much bloodshed, more than you can imagine. The whole region goes up in flames, Turkey comes in... in short, a beautiful legacy for the gwb administration.

But I believe when a person is harmed through your negligence it is incumbent upon you to try to make that person whole...I extend that rule to nation-states...

3. But when your presence is doing more harm than good....
...it's incumbent upon you to step out of the way and let them fix their problems themselves.

It won't be a magical paradise after we leave, but any solutions must be Iraqi solutions, not American solutions. Otherwise, they'll never be accepted.
