We don't live in a democracy, we live in a kakistocracy
They told me that we lived in a democracy, a land where every person had a say in what happened in our government and that all our voices were valued. And yet for some odd reason it seemed that only the very wealthy and powerful were able to have a chance to run for office. Only those who were given big corporate contributions could build the kind of campaign it took to win an election, and the common ordinary citizen seemed to have no real opportunity to choose our candidates. We were usually left with a choice between the person we absolutely hated and the person we could not get excited about, and yet we were supposed to be content with these two choices that were handed to us by the moneyed interests.

And so people would turn up to the polls, vote for a candidate, and then get home to find out that there were problems with our election system. Maybe it was a problem with Florida purging blacks from the voting rolls, maybe it was a problem with a partisan Secretary of State in Ohio ensuring that there were not enough voting machines in minority precincts and people had to wait in line for hours, maybe it was a problem with Diebold machines counting the votes wrong, but whatever the problem was nothing ever seemed to be done about it. Those who cheated were rewarded for their criminal acts, and they were allowed to take office without ever facing any consequences for their election fraud.

And so instead of democracy we got a kakistocracy, a government led by the worst people in society. The most corrupt, unethical, and absolutely vile people in the land were allowed to run our country into the ground while the people were left to watch helplessly while our nation sank further into the abyss.

No matter how hard we tried to fight the kakistocracy, we always seemed to end up on the losing end of the battle. Even when it seemed we had one and elected an opposition party into the majority, we were told impeachment was off the table and we would just have to live with the kakistocrats. We were told that we had to keep funding an illegal war, we were told we had to trust our criminal pResident to monitor our phone calls without a warrant, we were told we had to allow a man who supported waterboarding to be our Attorney General. We voted for change, and we got more of the same. The kakistocrats had not only taken over our opposition, but they used organizations like the DLC to help ensure that our own candidates would be spineless.

We don't have to settle for kakistocracy though. We can have a democracy, but we need to fight for it. We need to stand up and speak out and demand change, and if they refuse to give us change then we need to raise hell and refuse to accept their "authority". We need to make it clear that they have no authority over us, we have authority over them. There are way more ordinary citizens than there are kakistocrats, and we have the power to take our country back and declare our authority.

George Bush does not have authority over us, we have authority over him. He is not the decider, we are the deciders and he can only control us if we allow him to control us. The only reason that America is not a democracy is that we have allowed democracy to get stolen from us, but if everyone were to stand up today and declare the White House has no authority over them any more then the White House would be completely screwed.

This may not be a democracy, but we can make it one. It is time to declare our independence from the kakistocracy and take our country back.
