Mellissa Bean has better things to do than Defend the Constitution
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 05:03 PM by Phred42
Some weeks ago I sent Melisa Bean an email sharing my view that Impeachment hearings should be conducted on Bush and Cheney. I received the following back today.

Ms Bean is missing the point. There is no more important responsibility for Congress to undertake than validating the Rule Of Law. Without it we have nothing. But then Ms Bean voted with Tom Delay on most of the major issues in her first term. This is the Old School thinking that must be mucked out of Washington regardless of Party.

Bean's response:
----------------------------------------------

Dear ,

Thank you for contacting me about impeaching Vice President Cheney. I am honored to represent you, and I appreciate your active participation in our legislative process. Your involvement makes democracy work better by helping me more effectively represent you and Illinois' Eighth District.

As a Member of Congress, I share a deep respect for our American democracy. Over 200 years ago, our Founding Fathers established a federal government that for the first time in history guaranteed a voice to the citizens through elected representatives. As the people's voice in Washington, all members of Congress, the Judiciary and Executive Branch-elected or appointed-have a responsibility to conduct themselves with the level of integrity and accountability that the American people deserve and expect.

Like many Americans, I believe there are important issues facing our nation. However, I believe there are more pressing issues for Congress to focus on instead of distracting itself with another partisan impeachment process.

Thank you again for contacting me about this important issue. Please know, if articles of impeachment are brought before the House of Representatives for a vote, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind. I am proud to serve Illinois' Eighth District, and I am committed to working hard for you. Please do not hesitate to write, call, or email if I can ever help you in any way.

Sincerely,

Melissa L. Bean

Member of Congress

4. Thanks
I was looking for someone to support other than Bean.

I will look in this option, and pass it on - Thanks :)

3. Bean's a lousy Dem. But it'll be hard to get a progressive in the 8th.
I think everyone knew this about her before she was elected. Unfortunately, she's the candidate that appeals in that district. Repubs move out that way to get away from the liberalness of the city and near suburbs.

Better than 30 years of Crane, but that's not hard to accomplish.
