In a discussion about Tancredo bashing Huckabee, a Huckabee supporter defended Huckabee's "socialist" leanings as part of his dedication to a life ethic: "Gov. Huckabee's support of in-state tuition for children of illegals is compatible with his Pro-Life position - you don't throw away kids because of the sins of their parents."

It's compatible with a pro-life position. So is welfare, socialized medicine, death penalty moratoria, and handgun bans. None of them are compatible with conservatism, though.
Whether or not he created the problem, he shouldn't be exacerbating it by rewarding crime by putting the criminals' children through college at the taxpayers' expense.
Huckabee has every right to ignore conservative principles. He just shouldn't expect his pro-life position to be an excuse if he wants me to vote for him.

There you go: you can talk "pro-life" all you want, but if you actually support the health and well being of actual living people, then you're not a conservative. If you are truly pro-life, you have to be liberal.
On the
one aspect of "pro-life" that conservatives harp on — abortion — liberal policies have a better track record as well. Yes, the liberal stance is (general) to keep abortion safe and legal, but by reducing the number of
unwanted pregnancies, and giving people the resources they need to take care of the children they have (we're talking jobs and education), you reduce the number of abortions. Bill Clinton proved it. They're campaign to criminalize women's reproductive rights has created nothing but misery.
Pro-life my ASS.
