John Edwards Or Mitt Romney?
An independent woman from New Hampshire just called C-Span and said she's trying to decide between Mitt Romney and John Edwards...WTF? They represent two diametrically opposed visions of where we go from here...

This illustrates the idiocy of many independents... They claim to vote on issues not party allegiance but many of them just vote on personality or some other nebulous metric...

3. I think a lot of them simply call themselves independent out of pure ego
and it's true, a lot of them are morons. Like the guy in Dixie Notch (or whatever that place is called) who said he hadn't yet made up his mind, so he was going to close his eyes and pick one.

what a choice! When I heard it, I thought how could you be undecided between those two?

6. Save the single issues voters...
Most swing voters do not vote "on the issues". Every time I see one of those "Select-A-Candidate" links that goes to a form where you specify your issue preferences posted here, I have to laugh a little. So long as the candidates issue positions are not way out of the mainstream, swing voters will base their decision mostly on "qualities". Do they trust the candidate, does the candidate inspire them, do they seem "presidential", etc. Based on the fact that the caller was deciding between Edwards and Mitt, maybe "well groomed" is their deciding quality...

8. Ok. I'm going to say it, she's voting on looks.
I remember men doing the same thing here in Wisconsin in our last Supreme Court race. They said the Republican was better looking than the Democrat and that's why they voted for her.

10. many independents are of the socially liberal, economically conservative type
you hear that a lot from educated, well-to-do New Yorkers.

She may know more about Romney than we do. Remember that Romney was a fairly liberal Governor in Massachusetts. When we choose Hillary, JE or Barack aren't we also voting on personality, looks, intuition, etc.? Not much difference on actual issues.

13. Totally true
though Bloomberg is not that conservative economically - he squirrels away money but he can and will raise taxes and he's not exactly stingy (like the Ghoul was) in his negotiations with the municipal unions.

14. I Lived In NYC Till He Was Eleven
Bloomberg is a lot more palatable than The Ghoul...My aunt, God bless her who passed away at 98, hated The Ghoul with a passion...Well, she hated all Republicans...

12. I'm watching it and I saw that.
This woman is voting today and she hasn't even decided on the party yet?

There have been a few other people call in with similarly clueless statements.

15. I kind of understand what she is saying
Now, I know many here listen to the repub debate with a dem partisan ear, but I didn't. I listened to them and they sounded like reasonable men. If you don't delve into every little aspect of a candidate you tend to attach yourself to one or two things that they said that you agree with. Please don't under estimate the repub power to sound reasonable, because to the casual listener they do. That is why I don't give this election a free pass for the dems.
