Just who the hell are you people trying to convince?

A while back I wrote a post satirically entitled "Why I'm voting for Rudy Giuliani," about the (what seemed at the time to be) teeming hordes who swore up and down that they would not vote if Hillary was the nominee. This was back during the days, all of five weeks ago, when partisans for other candidates would all but call her Hitlery, routinely accuse her of directly being a tool of BushCo and... oh, god, etc, etc etc. At the time, I didn't think these people were convincing anybody with their effort to propogate the myth that some huge-though-undetected mass of Democrats wouldn't vote if Hillary was the nominee. It was bullshit, then, and it's bullshit now.

So now we've got the obvious bashing of Obama, the new front-runner. I won't bother to mention any specifics because, well, just read GD: P (if you can get past all the spittle.) So on to the title of this post:

Just who... who the fuck are you people trying to convince? You're not talking to a bunch of dumbasses on here who only watch the nightly news and American Idol. DUers, by and large, are informed. Or try to stay informed, at least. And so this latest theme of posting out-of-context Obama quotes strikes me as, well, the wrong tactic for dealing with a bunch of people who will actually go to the bother of figuring out where your quote came from and trying to understand it in context. Up until two months ago I had no idea we had so many amateur/wannabe political mudslinging artistes in our midst.

Please feel free to continue flaming your opponents for all they're worth, but please stop treating the vast majority of DUers like a bunch of fucking retards who can't even spell their own names. If you want to argue with those sorts of people, go troll freeperville.

My wife insists that DU people are a bunch of idiots because every time she looks at a few posts, they are ridiculous. I try to explain to her that DU people are actually incredibly well-informed (generally), but a handful of zealous enthusiasts tend to dominate the discussions. I've learned to tune them out so well that I don't even realize I do it anymore.

Thank you for reminding us that we are not a bunch of knuckleheads.
