Suprise..another false report about the Clinton campaign..
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/

"AFSCME President Gerald McEntee just put out a statement denying reports that AFSCME is one of the groups that might be considering funding an anti-Obama 527 group ...

“We’re not about the business of swift-boating any Democratic candidate. We will not be party to any kind of effort of this type. Our campaign is about promoting Hillary Clinton – not tearing down any other candidate. Our number one priority is having the strongest Democratic candidate to take back the White House in November.
And as I was writing this post, we got this statement from Ellen Moran of Emily's List, which was also flagged in the Huffpo piece ...

“This report is incorrect. We are absolutely not setting up a 527 to engage in the presidential primary. We have a proven mode of engagement in elections via our WOMEN VOTE! program and we are proud of the work WOMEN VOTE! has done for more than a decade to engage and mobilize women voters to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot.”

5. I like their politics, but their tactics aren't always clean & admirable
I'd be happier if they just smeared Republicans and happier still if they just sold facts instead of smear. But they don't. Politics is a dirty game sometimes.

8. It's charming Arianne herself
who drives these anti-Clinton tactics. Their front page is just sensationalized Clinton smears posing as opinion pieces.

That may be the case. But what does it mean that people even read that site?
It really seems to me that it is like a supermarket tabloid for the internet. Even the headlines are deceptive. The anti-Clinton bias is so obvious. I don't read it anymore.

The Black Arts of politics are being played. For all we know Edwards' campaign started it. I doubt that, but how could we ever know?

Democrats have adopted the same unbelievably aggressive and sometimes illegal campaign practices of Republicans.

"I'll make you a deal. Like any other candidate. We'll pretend you're walking home and your future's at stake. The set is amazing, it even smells like a street. There's a bar there at the end where I can meet you and your friends.... Selling mirrors and lies and stories they made up..." Candiate, David Bowie, Diamond Dogs

6. Did we ever find who started the "Gore will endorse Obama" rumor?
That one was floating around since Sunday. Or all the ones last week that various candidates (in addition to K.) wanted their supporters to make Obama their second choice?

My guess on these was not the Obama campaign, but possibly some over-eager supporters of his. Given the carnivale-like atmosphere now in NH, there is no telling which set of rascals or drunks might be involved. :) Maybe the pundits!

7. Negative rumors against Clinton are risk free, the whole family can play!
Folks at DU do it all the time: "Everyone knows the Clintons will do ANYTHING to win an election". "Do you think the Clintons will rig the vote in NH? That is exactly the type thing they would do". "How long do you think it will take the Clintons to start a false rumor that blah blah blah - you know they will, it's only a matter of time" etc. etc. etc.

I mean it worked so well with Republicans, why wouldn't folks here too believe every dirty evil thing someone says about the Clintons? Who needs proof? Everyone knows that if they haven't done whatever it is that we hate so much they certainly will soon anyway, right?

In that type of atmosphere the most effective way to employ dirty tricks negative campaigning against Hillary Clinton is to make up or exaggerate something negative about her campaign and put it out there as an un-sourced inside scoop. It works like a charm every time. Because everyone already knows that the only people in the Democratic Party who are capable of going negative are the Clintons. No one else would invent a derogatory story to reap political advantage. All the other Democrats are nice people, unlike the Clintons...

9. Of course they're going to deny it
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 05:46 PM by maximusveritas
but you'd have to be pretty gullible to think they aren't discussing doing this behind-the-scenes.

12. Most people here are willing to accept that John Edwards had no real say
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 05:50 PM by Tom Rinaldo
in allowing his ex campaign manager to start a 527 that attacked other Democrats in Iowa. Most were willing to believe that his later calling for those ads to stop wasn't a way to have his cake and eat it too. There usually is a double standard here when it comes to the Clintons.

13. Sure
People are going to be less cynical about the candidates they support and more willing to believe their protests of innocence.
