Counting Chickens
With 11% of the N.H. vote in, Clinton and Obama are virtually tied. Yes, Obama will probably win, and the votes counted are probably her strong areas. Still, in looking at the woe-be-gone faces on MSNBC (which has the best election coverage, IMO), they are no doubt mulling over the wisdom of their overreaction to Obama's success in Iowa.

I'm an Obama supporter. I am thrilled he is doing so well. I believe we are watching an historical election, no matter who wins, but esp. if Obama or Clinton win the G.E.

BUT...in the last few days, in response to the media's overreaction to the Obama success in the last few days, and in response to some other Obama supporters exaggerating the meaning of the Iowa win, I posted reminders that the race isn't over, that the Clintons could still possibly win on Super Tuesday, and that the fat lady hasn't sung (no, that's not a crack about Hillary). That's not to say that I couldn't understand it. It was, after all, an historical result in Iowa. The magnitude of the win had not been foreseen by just about anyone. I am astounded myself, and I totally believed white people would turn out in droves to vote for him (I myself am a middle aged white woman who supposedly is Hillary's base voter). I totally thought Obama was/is special and gifted. Still...it was only one race, albeit important.

Obama will probably win tonight. Probably. And I hope it's by a landslide. But as we can see, nothing is guaranteed.

Just thought I'd take this moment to remind myself and others that humility is a good thing, esp. in politics. The worm can turn, as they say.

1. Aye!
I'm with you on this.

I'm a pessimist at heart when it comes to these things....which is why I was nervous for the last three days regardless of the MSM spin.

Obama wasn't projected to win much, and he already has won 1 out of 1......this makes him viable, and that's most important. Because it provides the narative as to why is viable in the GE....something everyone was using as the reason why we shouldn't vote for him.

All in all, it's all good.

4. I truly believe something has changed in this country
I'm not going to let a few early returns convince me otherwise.

Younger voters have become engaged, and they don't want to go back to the '90s. We need to move forward with courage and new attitude of reconciliation -- not more triangulation and dirty politics. Obama symbolizes that vision and I believe in my heart he will win in the end for precisely that reason: he HAS the "vision thing" that we need now in a leader.

5. I do, too. But the Clintons and the leadership of the Dem. Party will not...
give up easily, if ever.

They are preparing to go to any lengths to win. And I believe the Dem. Party Washington establishment has decided it wants Hillary as the nominee.

I think that can be overcome, because of Obama. But it will be tough.

This is a very exciting primary primarily BECAUSE of Obama. I truly hope he wins. I voted in '06 to clean the slate of the people responsible for putting our country in the position it finds itself. I continue to plan to vote that way.

But I was just saying that the media gets carried away, in their desperation to fill their networks with election coverage 24/7. They were in an absolute Obamafest before the Iowa results were even all in, speaking as if all the other candidates might as well just give their campaign $$$ to Obama and go home. Just a reality check. As Edwards said (it wasn't Obama that said THIS): The status guo doesn't just give away its power. You have to take it. Let's go, Obamaramas!
