Thompson draws 'line in sand' in SC...
and aspires to cross that line in 3rd or 4th place. Go get 'em Fred!

"SUMTER, S.C. - Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson said Wednesday he is drawing a "line in the sand" in South Carolina, hoping that familiar Southern territory can revive a campaign sputtering following his last-place finish in New Hampshire the night before.

The former Tennessee senator and actor arrived in this early primary state the day before New Hampshire voters went to the polls, and has steadily ratcheted up the importance South Carolina will play in the future of his White House bid. The Republican primary here is Jan. 19.

"I'm proud to say I am drawing a line in the sand in South Carolina," Thompson said Wednesday morning in Sumter, home to an Air Force base, on the second full day of his 11-day swing through the state

A day earlier, Thompson joked with a couple of hundred people at a barbecue restaurant that they should watch his "Law & Order" reruns because he can use the residual checks. But he also held out hope that his focus here could mirror results in Iowa, where he tied for third..."

2. Yep - I can just see him, sitting on a beach, loungechair, napping -
reaching over to slowly drag his hand along and create that line.....then realizing that he overexerted himself, so ordered another cocktail and resumed his primary nap.

3. So what's the poll?
Despite the huff he probably already knows he can score there so he is beefing up the bounce.

If he was looking for an excuse he would draw the line in a state more likely to lose by sleepwalking through it which he got away with in Iowa.

4. Freddie doesn't stand a chance in hell against Huck in SC.
Yea I know he's from Tn. but Huck is a Baptist minister! I have NO IDEA what's going to happen on the Dem side, but South Carolinians will not vote for McCain because they haven't forgotten how he criticized Bob Jones U, Falwell & Robertson, and they'll pick Huck over Fred because he's a minister & he's also a southerner!

5. Fred is as good of a politician
as he is an actor. I've heard that he was lazy in the Senate and that he was lazy on the L&O set. Critics are saying that series has improved greatly since he left, and it won its time slot last Wednesday.

7. We owe that stupid expression to George Herbert Walker Bush.
Yeah, draw a line in the shifting sand. What idiots!

At any rate, I trust the sands will shift and give Thompson a decent burial in South Carolina. His five minutes of fame are up.

Thompson pretty much tied McCain for 3rd place. Which makes me wonder why Fred would want to have "mirror results" in South Carolina.
