YES WE CAN - SI SE PUEDE
Obama is ready.

Yes we can "si se puede" is the latino working class call to arms!

He was setting up in his speech, his next strategy and ONLY Rachal Maddow picked it up.
The night of his loss in NH he had ALREADY moved on.
This is one smart man

6. God, he could have at least been original.
That was Deval Patrick's great call to arms and now he wants to turn Massachusetts into a big casino.

translation of "yes we can."

17. I have had non Spanish speaking
friends google translations when they want to jokingly e-mail me in Spanish and some of those translations are way off.

No biggie about this. I was just making an observation.

20. "¡Sí, se puede!"
Is passive voice, more faithfully translated it'd be "Yes, it can be done!"

It's a bit like signs advertising "se habla Español"--"Spanish is spoken "--as opposed to "hablamos Español"--"we speak Spanish"

...do you think hispanics are so easily swayed-GW (he who shall not be named) speaks more spanish just from having nephews around.I wish I could speak spanish and address how important it is to have a true labor supporter running this country. But failing that i'll bet they don't fall for it.

18. Obama had a 90% COPE rating when he was in the Illinois legislature.
Obama "gets" what Labor wants to see. He not only "gets" it, he DELIVERS on it and that is how you attain that kind of COPE rating with Illinois Labor.

In Nevada, it is reported that Obama has received endorsements from the Culinary Workers and SEIU (Culinary Workers are part of UNITE-HERE, I think.) The Plumbers International announced his endorsement today.

27. Yeah, the delivery part is the core of it
Obama isn't just a talker and a sympathizer, he's a doer. That's what we need in a national executive.

21. Actually if the orthographical accent is missing, then the word si is "if"!
peude is singular present tense of poder, to be able to do something, the exact same word as "power."

Se is normally a reflexisive pronoun, but is also used in impersonal constructions such as "Se hace fría" for "It is cold."

There is a Jose-Luís Rodriguez song, "Si queremos podemos" which means "If we want to we can!"

I like that better than "Sí se pude."

This one is a lot like "que/che sera sera" which is very bad Spanish or Italian. "Lo cual será, será" or "That which will be shall be." Or even better "Será lo cual será." "It will be that which shall be."

Si se puede means something like "If it does something"! But one would probably put that in the conditional or subjunctive rather than present indicative. . . which would give us pueda or podría.

But what the heck, Spanish is a living group of languages! If people know what it is supposed to mean. . . then allons!

22. Actually...
to say "it's cold" you just say hace frío

sí se puede is a very common idiomatic expression (idiom). Yes, literally it means "yes, it can be done" but commonly used in the sense of "yes, we can!"

23. Just goes to show how flexible Spanish is!
Se is the one thing that freaks me out in Spanish -- I'm never sure when to use it or not! I was going by my comadre and her family in Florida, they always say "Se hace fría." But then again, she spells Ya as Lla!

24. You're right, Spanish is flexible!
I love it! "Se" usage can be daunting, just because Spanish-speakers use it in so many contexts (reflexives, impersonal expressions, false passives, etc).

25. Absolutamente estoy de acuerdo!
Obama is a natural candidate to work for Latino issues, and Edwards is excellent as well. For example, he opposed the border fence and other hateful anti-Latino legislation, which Hillary Clinton supported. Please let's help get the word out to Latino voters about the candidates who really stand to help them!

And I'm not kidding. I don't remember any "yes we can". Unless it was at a union event or something.

32. I bet that's why
It must do with your demographics. I honestly never heard it, or if I did I just related it to a union event. Which is kind of what I see now. Once Nevada is over, I imagine they'll come up with something different.

34. lol, oh no, not that
At least half the lines, and 80% of the ideas, are all from the Kerry campaign.

I don't worry about who's up and whos down. How many times did Kerry say that.

Believe in America again. Change we can believe in.

I see similarities all the time.
