Obama Draws Throng in Jersey City
By Keith B. Richburg

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey - In his first campaign rally since his second-place showing in New Hampshire, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) spoke Wednesday afternoon to an boisterous overflow crowd at a college gymnasium, and said his loss Tuesday was a sober reminder that his message of change will be met by fierce resistance.

"One of the useful things...about yesterday was it reminds us that change isn't easy," Obama told the crowd. "Change is hard. Change is always met by resistance from the status quo." Someone in the crowd shouted back "Hillary is the status quo!"

In a veiled reference to Clinton, without mentioning her name, Obama also said that while he lost New Hampshire, even his rivals had now picked up on his theme of changing America. "We started this campaign talking about change," he said. "We talked about it while we were down, and we talked about it while we were up. Now almost everybody is talking about change."

The question, he added, was "Who will actually deliver change?"

New Jersey does not hold its presidential primary until Feb. 5, "Super Tuesday," but the crowd, at Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, was one of the largest Obama has addressed in the campaign. Organizers said some 3,000 people - not including the hundreds of journalists - were packed inside, and Obama said an additional 2,000 people were not allowed in because of concerns that the gym was too crowded. Obama apologized for an entry almost an hour after the scheduled starting time by explaining he had to greet those outside. "All across America, we're seeing crowds like this today," he said. "We couldn't let in 2,000 folks. That's why I'm a little late."

and is trying to co-opt Obama's campaign points cause they see how well they're doing. The clintons are shamelessly driven by their lust for power and couldn't care less about the People of this country especially our military.

26. She's had 8, or 35, years to show us

I don't see anything different about her. That's the first reason I rejected her. She has never brought a woman's perspective to foreign policy or other traditionally male arenas.

34. Lame.
Hillary has the name recognition, 8 years in WH as a Presidential spouse, and Establishment backing. Most of the strongest opposition against Hillary I've been encountering, among Dems, has been among young women.

Sorry, but the sexist meme is BS, and anyone who tries to divide us further with it is pathetic.

35. Edwards has always been about change.
Obama's statement about the status quo is a direct quote from a memorable moment in John Edward's statements at the debate in N.H.

32. Sorry, "first woman President" trumps all that other stuff....
....the 8 years of the Clinton presidency gave us 20 million new jobs, balanced budgets, surpluses, ending with one of the highest exit ratings for any President.

But I am not counting that. First woman president ! That's a huge change from the status quo - the over two centuries male dominated presidency.

41. No, it doesn't
Someone like Tansu Ciller, a woman w/o family ties who won the Prime Ministership of Turkey, has clearly worked her way up and accomplished the feat on her own. Someone who uses her last name *and* the active campaigning of a former President like Bill Clinton, is using dynasty connections, and this frankly is nothing special from the many other countries (e.g. Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Philippines) who have had women leaders before, who used their fathers' or husbands' coattails to get the position.

Societies across the world lend far more respect to individuals who gain the office by dint of their own accomplishments, rather than through some familial relation to a prior leader. It's the standard respect given to self-made individuals, and it's given for a good reason-- familial relations leading to power are the definition of monarchies and the oligarchies, and the electoral process (which the bloody American Revolution was necessary to bring about) is a system designed precisely to prevent that, and to bring in unrelated but accomplished individuals into positions of responsibility.

From the voters?

The "fierce resistance" in New Hampshire was put up by citizens who chose to vote for a candidate other than Barack Obama.

So FU, New Hampshire citizens. You're the status quo.

You are going to pop a vessell. The truth is trouhgout his life he has shown more fight for the people and the ordinary workers than your candidate (and I am not talking about winning some trials and making a lot of money on the way).

they caught him plagiarizing..i guess you don't give a rats ass about your candidate stealing another candidates words...just take a breath and ask yourself why now the media is ignoring pure unadulterated plagiarism.

You want a pres like that?? have at it..i am not dumbed down enough!

Obama has clueless people making excuses for him..that is not the America i grew up in!

You want to blow love hearts up my ass about how much your candidate has done for the people in this country..and change he has brought about?? Perhaps he ought to do his job ..you show me a bold move that man has made to bring about real change in this country..as a US Senator..maybe you need time to make up some more excuses for him..go ahead take your time! You can rest assured that you will be making excuses for someone who is passing himself off as something he is not, you will be making excuses for the rest of your life....you would think people would have learned ..your damn right i am angry..i am seeing my country destroyed.

Where was Obama when only one senator had the balls to threaten filibuster to hold accountable those who have spied on Americans and broke the laws of our Constitution??????????

oh yeah..he wasn't there...he not only didn't physically show up..he didn't verbally show up to support the American people's civil rights and privacy.

Where does he stand on habeas corpus...and what has he done about that as well??

I am glad it will be you with buyers remorse..because it sure as hell won't be me!
