Clinton, Obama & the Senate - can someone tell me...
if one or the other is more respected by their peers in legislative branch?

if one or the other is more effective at coalition-building?

if you can point me to any unbiased, knowledgable articles/editorials on this?

I'm trying to decide which one is more likely to accomplish their goals (which, at this time, seem very similar to me and I like both), and you don't get anything done in Washington without a helluvalotta talent for putting coalitions together. This, fwiw, is one reason why I've left the Edwards bandwagon for either Hillary or Barack -- I don't believe Edwards is as experienced at this as the other two.

1. Sounds like you want Joe Biden.
I don't really know enough to give you a direct answer. As a side note, Edwards spent more time in the Senate than Obama has, though it was four years ago.

6. Yeah, I was being ironic.
I was kind of for Richardson until he dropped out.

2. Undecided NY er - on Hillary only: it was remarkable that she

was able to get money for NYC after 9.11. Rudy and our GOP governor were allowed Bush to stiff us, but Hillary got the Senate and even Bush to make good on the promise. That impressed me.
So, that's a plus.
For me the IWR vote is still a road block to my support for her.
We went to her office to talk about the war - she said she was doing this for our own good - to protect us from terrorists...:eyes:
So, you pick what's relevant to you from this mixed bag

3. When HRC came to the Hill in 2000, she really surprised people on her...
willingness to do legislative dirty work and by her ability to 'play well with others'.

I think people - R's in particular - expected her to be a total pain in the ass.

5. All i can say is

That Hilary has earned a lot of respect from senators on both sides of the aisles, its well documented and she has only missed 6% of senate votes since she started.

Obama on the other hand has missed 16% of votes since he's been there from senate convening in Jan 05 and really practically hasnt been seen the senate in about a year. So in reality he's been a Senator really 3 years and most of that was spent running for President, doesnt smack of much consideration for his state.

8. Yes, he is supposed to be doing some things for his
constituents. He is not here to do them. Many people understand that. I don't.

For example, when Hastert resigned, he did not see that Fermi Lab was funded. This is a huge problem for the area, and for those who work there. Durbin is working with Biggert, a republican congresswoman, to tackle this. Obama is too busy.

Of course Durbin is backing Obama. I don't doubt that Obama will win the primary here.

I don't know who will get my vote in the primary. But Obama needs to get back to work.

9. So the "irrational hatred" of Hillary
is not a big problem in Washington, just with the electorate?

I felt there was alot of irrational hatred of Bill, yet he was very effective. But I don't want to live through that same kind of pointless mudslinging at Hillary.

One of my disappointments with both Hillary and Barack is that they won't pursue investigation/indictments of the criminal SOBs currently occupying the White House.

12. I think mostly MSM - more than electorate. 97% hate Bush in NH. I guess
enough of them would vote for her for this reason only.

7. The Clintons have a tradition of treating people with respect.
Which allows them to sit down with their enemies and negotiate compromises, which is how our government is designed to work.

The campaign process is adversarial and doesn't permit compromise, so that quality isn't front and center now.
