**** Bill Clinton coming up on Michael Baisden Show! **** BLACK RADIO
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 03:47 PM by Tess99
The Clintons are finally feeling the heat from the fires that have been raging in the black community for weeks now.

Callers chiming in telling Baisden to stand up to the president and don't let him get slick. Young caller from Atlanta says the Clinton comments have caused big time tension on the black campuses and they will all be mobilizing around Barack for Feb.5th. I'm talking about all of Morehouse, Spelman, Clark Atlanta University, and Morris Brown. Says they are FIRED UP for Barack and hurt and angered by the Clintons. Won't be fooled come Feb 5.!!!

Several white callers called in to express their disgust and to say they won't be voting for Clinton which makes me feel hopeful that white people do understand how horrible it is that the Clintons are doing this.

Apprently Clinton was also on Steve Harvey this morning and Steve wasn't buying his spin and neither were the callers.

For the white DUers out there who don't get it, there is a FIRESTORM in the black community over this. It's real and it's getting mobilized to turn against Clinton and lift up Barack.

4. Good to hear
I think it is high time certain white people got confronted about the racist shit they say when they think they're "among friends". I've brought it up on DU a few times and it does not go over well. Nobody wants to admit it.

BTW, a recent SC poll had Obama leading Clinton with white voters too. This racist crap is not going to stand.

And if you didn't believe it before, you will afterwards.
They bring all the strange things together, all the uncomfortable things.... Jack and Jill exposes the pattern.

And some folk will still vote for the Clintons.

33. *yawn*
The Clintons have spent most of their political lives helping blacks. If that community can be swayed by the idealistic speeches and cunning innuendo of Obama, who has done nothing except be born in a bi-racial family, then they will get another nobody on training wheels trying to run the country while screwing things up worse than GWB.

We need someone in the White House who knows where to find the copy machine on DAY 1. That is Hillary, not "O."

And I don't think this format is conducive to taking cheap shots from posters. The only thing moronic is thinking "O" is anything but a dreamer who has seen MLK's mountain.

Worse, he is dangerous. He creates a whole new generation of cynics who believed in his oratory and will find out he can do NOTHING. His round table with the insurance and health providers is a national joke. They will eat him alive. He is playing with your dreams and you are too stupid. or moronic, to know it.

Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 06:12 PM by DivorcingNeo
Bill has never and will never be the first Black President. The only reason why that joke went around was because of his personal transgressions. Which in reality is offensive to relate that behavior with "blackness"

If Bill was so black why did he sit by playing semantics while half a million Rwandan's (African People) were slaughtered?

Not to mention NAFTA that has broken the back of labor, to which many Black Americans had in the past been able to provide a somewhat middle class living for their families. Not to mention the effect on small business's that actually in the past helped to keep the black community thriving, when shut out of other communities. Now although it's not legistlated we still live in a seperate but unequal society and yet most resources have been sucked out of the communities.

While intergration has led to the educated and well to do, to flee to White middle class and upper class neighborhoods and assimilate. Ironically with people who don't want them there to begin with.

Don't get me started on white flight.

Wake up black America...please wake up.

The Clintons are not your friends!

35. Two points
First, Baisden told Clinton that he understands what Clinton had to say about Obama. But the tone was not taken well by his radio listeners. That when they hear something said by Bill Clinton they hear it a certain way and he has to understand that fact. Clinton then talked about how tired he was from traveling and speaking and Baisden's caution was taken.

Then, Baisden told Clinton that his listeners have made it clear that they want Hillary for her own sake - no twofer with Bill included. They know she's qualified to be presdient on her own. Bill responded saying he understood this and would have no place in the administration such as in the Cabinet. He would do something if she asked him to, to take on a task - like things we've heard before. No permanent place in her administration should she get nominated and elected.

I thought Baisden did a good job of being clear and kind of tough. He told BC that he had a special place in the hearts of the black community and he should watch how he says things. Frankly, I would not have wanted to be Bill today.

Anyway, that's what I think I heard of the conversation.

47. It ended on a friendly tone
The conversation lasted for over 10 minutes and I gave a brief synopsis.

Baisden is now telling a listener that he respects Clinton for coming on his show. That he had to tell Clinton how what he said was not appreciated from the black perspective. Baisden said that he can speak to anyone including presidents with respect but with no bowing down. And that's exactly how Baisden sounded to me. It was a respectful conversation but with no pulled punches. Clinton tried to explain how he felt justified but he also took it on the chin.

This is a show I'm glad to have found today. Thanks again to the OP.

50. I don't disagree with the OP
I'm white. So I'm not entirely clear about what Baisden meant when he said that his listeners hear things "in a certain way". But if I were to speculate, I'd say that I heard Baisden advise Clinton (in a nice way) to - Cut the crap.

Of course, I could be wrong. But I don't think so.

He was letting Clinton know that we are very versed in that old coded language he was using and that he should stop it. Bill was saying those things "in a certain way" and we heard them loud and clear.

It's related to me. His opinion is invalid in my opinion because he can't even respect black women. Why should anyone listen to his opinion on the Clintons and Obama?

As I've stated elsewhere, I don't hold punches and I tell it like I see it. No one is exempt, even other Black Americans.

He damages the community with his divisive rhetoric, because he has an issue with Black Women. Broad brushing and stereotyping. However, let someone say something about a Black man (i.e. Obama) and all bet s are off.

78. What I dislike
Is that because I support Barack Obama some think that means I couldn't have thoughtfully considered his candidacy based on merit and substance.

It just has to be because he's black. It's this idea that black people are monolithic and all think and feel the same way. It's a farce. I realize some will vote for Clinton, I personally, think their decisions are misguided in some instances, but if they are a part of the older generation (especially those active in politics) I can understand why (although still misguided). It's the same as Black Republicans. Which tends to fall along a class issue.

Now some feminists on DU claim if you do not vote for Hillary you are sexist, hardly. I recognize misogyny and no group of women in this country has been more effected by it than black women. Just turn on Plantation BET, that's the real shuck and jive show.

Micheal Baisden's derogatory and inflammatory comments in regards to Black women in America will not be forgiven and his opinions are dismissed to me. He's a hater, a hater that Black women in this country are progressing while he's walking around with a chip on his shoulder.

Owns both BET and MTV both produce vile programming. BET took off shows of substance, like the Nightly News (guess we don't need to be informed of news relevant to our community, because we all know the mainstream media does a good job covering for us), teen summit and Tavis Smiley to put on more mindless reality shows and of course misogynistic music videos.

They only took off the uber vile, show Uncut (that featured videos of rappers swiping credit cards between the ass cheeks of damn near naked strippers) after Black women repeatedly expressed their outrage.

Yet the show goes on and it's not really getting much better. They think that Sunday morning gospel shows and that half-witted town hall they did on hip hop music will suffice but they are very wrong.

Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 08:21 PM by Anouka
We remember Strom Thurmond. He had no problems on a personal level with black people -- especially black women -- but he did whatever it took to win, and that included using racist, bigoted means.

Are the Clintons Strom Thurmond?

Once is forgettable.
Twice is forgiveable.
Multiple times is a pattern.

The Clintons are at multiple times.

Couple that with a revisit to their years in the White House and how their policies *really* affected the black family..... things aren't so rosy anymore.

Spreading lies about your opponent.. now THAT'S divisive. And Hillary has been caught doing it, in regards to Obama's record.

Again, sometimes smart politics is dirty.

Strom Thurmond played smart, dirty politics, using the tools of a bigotry he didn't really feel.

It appears the Clintons have taken up his playbook for themselves. That's all.

Notice, the only ones being accused of this stuff is the Clintons. Nobody is mad at Edwards... or Richardson.... or Kucinich.... and Biden made one mistake and didn't go any further, particularly since his was supposed to be a compliment...

None of them have pulled what the Clintons have.

None of them have the b.s. attached to their campaigns
that the Clintons have.

It's only the Clintons. There's fire where there's smoke, in this case.

128. Clinton lied about Obama's Abortion Record
http://www.counterpunch.org/donnelly01072008.html

In the ABC New Hampshire Debate, Sen. Ratched went off on a rant where she uttered the word "change" ten times in one minute, never once noting any real change she's ever brought about. Though, she did steal credit for others' health care efforts--a paltry effort at that, in which she claims to have brought minimal health care to just 9700 New Hampshire residents. At the same time, she stuck to the script that she has "thirty-five years of experience"--a canard Iowans had little trouble rejecting; with New Hampshire residents weighing in Tuesday.

A day before, Sen. Inevitable slammed rival Sen. Barack Obama on Abortion. (Now there's a change for you: a Democrat in trouble playing the abortion card!) A Clinton mailing sent to New Hampshire voters accuses Obama of failing to take a position on abortion bills seven times while in the Illinois Legislature. The missive claimed that Clinton has a record of fighting "far-right Republicans" to defend abortion rights, while Obama has been "unwilling to take a stand on choice." Yet, during his eight years in the Illinois legislature, Obama garnered a 100% rating from the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council.

On Saturday, the New York Times published a 1300-word essay on "Comeback Kid: The Sequel," noting that "One longtime adviser complained that the campaign's senior strategist, Mark Penn, realized too late that 'change' was a much more powerful message than 'experience.' " Hence, the stilted NH debate performance.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/01/06/hillary-hits-obama-on-abo_n_80013.html

Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton criticizes rival Barack Obama's record on abortion rights in a mailing sent to New Hampshire voters _ her first direct attack on the Illinois senator since his victory in Iowa.

The mailer says that seven times during his time in the Illinois state Senate, Obama declined to take a position on abortion bills, while Clinton has been a defender of abortion rights.

During his eight years in the legislature, Obama cast a number of votes on abortion and received a 100 percent rating from the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council for his support of abortion rights, family planning services and health insurance coverage for female contraceptives. He voted against requiring medical care for aborted fetuses who survive, a vote that especially riled abortion opponents.

The articles don't mention them, but the seven times the Clinton hatemail mentions are probably those 'present' votes that Planned Parenthood backed him up on. That's different from not taking a stand.

Clinton lied by twisting the truth. You can't call someone who has a 100% rating with Planned Parenthood, a person who refuses to make a stand on a woman's right to choose.

Some folks are not pleased.

http://jackandjillpolitics.blogspot.com/2008/01/now-obama-was-part-time-state-senator.html

From TPMElection Central:

Check out this little nugget from the campaign trail in Nevada, as per the Las Vegas Review Journal:

Clinton implied that Obama's career has mostly been spent running for office rather than governing.

"He was a part-time state senator for a few years, and then he came to the Senate and immediately started running for president," she said. "And that's his prerogative. That's his right. But I think it is important to compare and contrast our records."

Um, no.

He was an Illinois State Senator for 8 years. Nothing 'part-time' about that, Senator 'I got everything because of who I married' Clinton. In fact, he has more TOTAL elected experience than YOU DO. And, he was never HANDED anything either. He EARNED both his Illinois State Senate seat, AND his Illinois Senate Seat, beginning from nothing.

But two major players in this world are already moving rapidly to disavow any involvement in any such effort.
