I'm going to go with Obama at this point....
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 07:54 PM by Flabbergasted
I've been supporting Edwards thus far, although, since December, I was looking hard at Biden.

There are two main reasons for choosing Obama for me...

1.) an inspirational leader with good judgment, and progressive record, is the way to go for the country.

2.) electing a succession of related family members is an extremely poor choice for a democracy.

GO Obama.

A Democracy is as democracy does.

A co-existing dynasty expanding from the late 20th century into the first two decades of the 21st century is not a sign of progress, and doesn't inspire our children to anything.

It is a challenge that calls those of us who understand that anything is possible if we work at it, to stand up and say, Yes We Can!

that in effect, is the American Dream. It is what America should be about, and what they taught us about in history books forever.

There is a wide gulf between all Americans being able to aspire to the highest position leading this nation and those who believe that it is only the very few, sometimes through nepotistic entitlement, that are handed that opportunity.
It is the difference between night and day!

35. Nice pie chart, but when he ran, Nancy Skinner was his primary
opponent. She wasn't impressed then ... why should I be now?

Yes, there are many bills ... but I asked about his experience ... or do I have more time in 'hood than he does?

I'm afraid not knowing the subject leads to criticism like this
There are few examples of skill-development initiatives, beyond the Harlem one, that have succeeded on the scale Obama proposes. He would increase funding for the Community Development Block Grant program, but billions spent on jobs and housing through the grants over the years have failed to turn around many areas

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/18/AR2007071802529.html

As for the Harlem Chidren Zone ... I have nothing against it ... seen Bill Clinton promoting it for years.

Looking for more details on his 4 years on the south side of Chicago, I came across this lengthy article in NY Mag. I find this is interesting:

Obama’s election came at the end of a grueling, seventeen-hour marathon process of winnowing down from nineteen candidates. The review was as ideologically divided as the rest of the law school, and much has been made subsequently of the fact that, in the end, Obama secured the backing of the review’s Federalist Society faction by convincing them that he would “listen fair-mindedly to the perspective of the conservatives and treat them even-handedly,” as their leader, Brad Berenson, a former associate White House counsel to George W. Bush, puts it. Yet, as Mack points out, “Barack was going to win regardless of the conservative vote. It seemed clear as the balloting went on that he had overwhelming support.”

http://nymag.com/news/features/39321/index5.html

And this: Clinton and Obama are enacting these archetypes all over again, with the former promising to fight on behalf of America’s “invisibles,” offering strength and battle-testedness more than eloquence, and the latter remaining detached and professorial, offering vaguely to change our politics but failing to explain how.

#1. I was never a 100% Edwards guy so it was not the most difficult of decisions. I have a few doubts with most of candidates although, like I said, I was warming to Biden.

#2. Edwards will only win if Clinton and Obama commit some great blunder. Since Hillary is my very last choice I'm going to support Obama.

Once again I apologize.

According to your criteria, why wouldn't Edwards also qualify? In fact, isn't he more politically progressive than Obama?

22. Not necessarily...
In rhetoric yes, but not necessarily in belief or action. I tend to believe that Obama is more progressive in belief while Edwards more progressive in speech.

There is also very little chance of Edwards winning at this point and Hillary is my last choice.

Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 08:42 PM by electron_blue
I think Edwards still has a chance for a comeback once we have more than 2 primary/caucuses out of the way. Everything I've read indicates that of the top 3, Edwards is the most progressive in action. I'm having a hard time deciding if that's really true. To me, that is a top priority. And everything I've read, including Obama's two books, he seems significantly more conservative than I first thought he was.

Would you mind stating what about Obama's actions particularly speak to you about him being more progressive than Edwards or Clinton?

eta: I know the online quizzes don't count for much but whenever I've taken them - the ones that pick your candidate for you based on your priorities - Obama comes after Clinton and after Edwards. So.... just wondering. I bet you know some good website links for Obama.

32. ....
Ok

Edwards puts his finger up in the air and goes in the direction that is most expediant to his goals. This includes a complete turn around on the Iraq war. There is also the matter of the Hedge fund he worked for which garnered him a great amount of money while executing pretty crappy business practices. He voted against minimum wage increases. He voted for several bankruptcy bills. He voted for the Patriot Act.

Clinton is the establisment candidate. I don't see anything progressive in her at all.
