44% Latinos voted for George W. Bush in the 2004 elections. That's not bad for a Republican.
In 2008 we may be facing a candidate who has advocated a path to citizenship to all illegal immigrants. Perhaps most of us would agree that he is less to to the right of the spectrum than George W. Bush and more appealing to Latinos.

Now that we know, according to a staunch Obama DU contributor (See his opinion), that many Latinos are racist and would likely not be enthusiastic about a black Democrat running, we should ask ourselves: Do we want a good candidate such as Hillary, to have a chance against McCain? Or do we want an African-American who is great, but would face the nearly impossible task of overcoming Hispanic racism? If Bush did fine against a white candidate, imagine McCain against an African-American.

It is because of this that I encourage you to vote in the primaries for a candidate who can win. That candidate is Hillary Clinton.

4. Well, that's convincing: Don't vote for Obama because he's black.
I doubt if Obama will get David Duke's vote, either, but that sure as hell won't stop me from voting for him if I think he's the best candidate. (I support Edwards, by the way.)

Electability is a consideration, but not this kind. You know, Latino men have a "reputation" for being macho. Maybe we shouldn't vote for Hillary because she won't get the Latino male vote?

Where does this crap end?

judgment will match well against McLame's doddering-old-warpig-Washington-dinosaur status. Not worried.

7. Sorry if McCain is the candidate
neither Obama or Clinton will win....the swiftboaters will have a field day - that and voter suppression and black box voting we'll have 4 more years of the repunks - oh and the swiftboaters will have a field day with Edwards too - I just don't think they will be quite as successful...

12. Our best hope..
barring an Edwards win is a McCain loss in the primaries.

With Obama, it will be Kerry v. Bush all over again. Clinton would fare even worse.

14. The RNC is hoping that they get to run against both Clintons
If you want to hand an easy victory to the Republicans, who would have a very empowered base as well as the independent vote, vote for Hillary. It's that simple.

23. Yes, really. Obama has the edge. Here are some polls:
If you look at these polls here:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/national.html

He beats McCain in more polls than Clinton.

24. Yes, not really
The poster said "Clinton and Obama both Beat McCain according to the current polls." But the link that you provided shows a mixed bag. Clinton and Obama were leading in some polls but not all. And in a lot of the polls you linked to the results were within the statistical margin of error.

The reason I bring this up is because we need to guard against overconfidence. The Repugs are going to pull out all of the stops to try to beat us and IMO we need to respond in kind.

16. Race-baiting bullshit.
And completely unworthy of your candidate.

There are several points of contention here.
1) First and foremost, THIS IS NOT LATIN AMERICA. This is the United States, and Latinos who are citizens, i.e. voters, are Americans. They, or their ancestors, LEFT the latin countries behind that are mired in stratification by skin tone. By your reasoning, no one of German descent could ever vote for a Jew.

2) "44% Latinos voted for George W. Bush in the 2004 elections." And even at that, Bush had to steal it to win it. Immigrant communities tend to be more susceptible to patriotic calls in general, and Bush was still positioned as the candidate of the faithful (which naturally includes the conservative Catholic latinos) - but the republican platform has proved itself, again and again, at odds with patriotism and faith. I suspect there are a lot of disappointed latinos out there that are more prone to look at the Democrats this time.

3) You are conflating "illegal immigrants" with "latinos". The latinos who are voting are all CITIZENS - otherwise, they wouldn't be voting. Again, race-baiting.

4) You are taking a well-written, well informed opinion piece and drawing a broad-brush conclusion that is not supported by that piece. The countries listed, with their electoral preference for Spanish/European descended candidates over mixed-blood candidates all have a long history of oligarchy and dictatorship - where the people actually get their CHOICE, the people choose one of their own, i.e. Chavez in Venezuela, by an overwhelming amount, and their well funded opposition is the minority wealthy blue bloods.

So don't spew racist bullshit here on Hillary's behalf. As much as I don't like her she doesn't deserve THIS kind of 'support'.

19. Uh ... "many Latinos are racist" ...
Are you sure you really want to rep that line?

If you do, there's a whole bunch of whites, blacks, Asians, as well as Latinos who would like to have a few words with you.
