"Don't you have some crosses to burn?"
Sure, their posts get deleted time and time again, but why are they allowed to remain members?

20. Here is how it all looks from outside the box........
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 07:50 PM by liberalnurse
The Black Community is making this an ethnic race issue. They assume being Black is a power position for the black race, supported by all blacks under the one drop rule of yesteryear...they are shoving and forcing it into the election. It will backfire.

Experience will then take lead because the candidate of Hope is letting ethnic race become a "thuggery" position to the voters...and it is not inspiring HOPE or CHANGE.

Inspired thought from Bill Moyer's Journal

Shelby Steele

http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/01112008/profile2.html

Obama seems to understand America's race fatigue, the unbearable boredom occasioned by today's stale politics generally and by the perfunctory theatrics of race especially.

snip>

As a symbol, he raises several remarkable possibilities. Is America now the kind of society that can allow a black -- of whatever pedigree -- to become the most powerful human being on earth, the commander of the greatest military in history? Have our democratic principles at last moved us beyond even the tribalism of race? And will the black American identity, still so reflexively focused on victimization, be nullified if a black wins the presidency of this largely white nation?

6. Yup. ObamaNation could sure learn a lot from Obama.
Instead they call people racists and Klan members, then hide.

The sexist lable was the first of these to be thrown around haphazardly.

13. I think a lot of labels have been thrown around haphazardly towards DU posters
Sometimes it fits, sometimes it doesn't. The racism lable is know where near as prevelant as the "everyone is a sexist" meme that has infiltrated the board for the last few months.

22. Frequent offenders get tombstoned.
May they rest in pieces.

Until that happens, might I suggest the ignore feature? It saves a huge amount of aggravation from serial insulters.

7. Some have been tossed off the cliff, but...
there's that balance between free speech and being an offensive asshole. Really, if you make a hundred good posts and one sick one, should you be nuked? Nobody but the mods can properly track a poster's history, and they don't always have the time to do it right. But they do try, I know that.

Most of us just try to avoid the offensive assholes who slip through the cracks. Or the occasionally offensive post.

12. There really should be a limit, imo.
Even the most sensible of posters might slip once in a while, but to violate DU rules with post after post, day after day? I've seen some DUers mention being "bulletproof" - that would be a shame, if true.

16. Well, I can't talk ancient mod stuff in public, but...
I can say that NO member is bulletproof and if someone claims to be, I hope an alert is quickly acted on. Not that the member is necessarily banned, but at least notified that such talk is a no-no.

Some do, however, wear a bit more body armor than others. This is understandable when members have been productive and built up relationships over the years, and then you have to question whether banning for getting hyper during primary season is fair. Or worthwhile.

9. Where are the mods?
At the very least, there are a number of threads that need to be moved to different forums.

And the name-calling in some threads is completely out of hand.

This is no criticism of our mods, I'm sure they're overwhelmed, so how would they know if it was a poster's first time, or hundredth?

There is much Asshattery going on here that shouldn't be.

The ignore fuction relegates such people to the "Hall of Asshats" and makes DU a much better place.

Posts calling both myself and RonnyK reacists were still standing. Our crime? Supporting HRC. That's it.

It's gotten ridiculous on here. Some people need to be reprimanded for continual baiting like this.
