Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 09:37 PM by Herman Munster
Race will now be a central issue in the campaign after Obama has spent a year trying to transcend race. He's off-message. No more hope. No more unity. No more healing. We now have a full fledged battle in the party over race and gender. This serves nobody's interests but Obama is outnumbered. There are a lot more women than blacks in this country.

1. Nah, just classless power-hungry has beens
Who will say anything about anybody to get what they want. Race really doesn't have anything to do with it, although they will use it, just like they use voter disenfranchisement and every other right wing trick in the book.

They don't like or dislike anybody...But they'll stab you in the back to get what they want. They will cheat, lie, steal whatever.

2. Exactly right. I thought all week Obama would end the bullshit himself but
then it started coming from his own campaign officials. Sucks, I thought he was good at politics.

11. Catch-22.
Since most people aren't really following it as obsessively as DU, if he says, "The Clintons' words are not racist," it would just look like a back-handed insinuation of racism. Moreover, by pronouncing things racist or not racist, he is entangling himself with race.

Which campaign officials have called the Clintons racists?

17. A tenor and pattern of sleazy attacks, not of racism. I didn't see any references to race there.
What made you think he was talking about race?

3. Then the Clintons and their surrogates need to zip their lips so
there's nothing to discuss. I just don't see that happening as it all appears a calculated move by the Clinton camp. I wouldn't advise anyone not to defend themselves.

is the reason why you keep starting threads about Obama and race, right?

9. I'm a white woman and the Clinton's have so disgusted me this week that even if she wins the nom,
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 09:48 PM by jezebel
I will NEVER vote for her. So to say "There are a lot more women than blacks in this country." is in itself making this a gender/race war. I have defended the Clinton's for years to members of my own family. This week she lost me as a supporter ever, and even worse than that has given me such distaste and disdain for Bill Clinton who I always respected and defended before.
I am a white 38 year old woman and Hillary will never get my support in the general. I will stay home first. So don't assume that all women will support Hillary, just as I wouldn't assume all African American's will support Obama.

29. That is total BS, I was equally for Clinton, Obama or Edwards. It is the words and actions of the
Clintons that have so turned me off.

19. The Clintons are not racists, and anyone insisting that they are is being foolish
Your point about transcending is quite valid, too.

There will be blowback if this ham-handed strategy continues. It is coming off like amateur hour, politically speaking. Obama needs to tell his surrogates to cut the crap and get back on message. And his 'supporters' should use a little common sense--unless they aren't really his supporters (and that's entirely possible, too, in this screwed up political season).

I don't think they're racist either. Most here don't think that also. I was disappointed in their choice of words but they are not racist.

22. As this thread clearly demonstrates, all the hatred and nastiness is coming from the Obama side.
It makes me sick to read posts like those on this thread from people who either pretend to be or think they actually are Democrats.

They sound EXACTLY like Republicans -- repeatedly accusing the Clintons of things they cannot prove against them -- always talking as if it were well-known that the Clintons are crooks, when nothing has ever been proven against them -- insistently claiming that THEY, the posters, are somehow superior in morality to Bill and Hillary.

They aren't.

People who post lies and insults about the Clintons are morally inferior to the Clintons. Not as good human beings as they. Not as good Democrats as they. Certainly not as good Christians as they.

Because the Clintons would not post such lies and insults about you -- or even their worst enemies.

THAT is the truth, and you cannot prove otherwise.

You can BELIEVE otherwise if you want, but you'll be wrong.

...into these pointless arguments.

We all know what the truth is, but it's pointless to try to convince those who insist on being divisive otherwise.

Let's turn towards hope instead:
