This may well be the best thing that could have happened to John Edwards
If the Clinton and Obama campaigns don't cool it, JE stands to benefit in SC and beyond. And all of us participating in these battles serve to expand it a little bit more. I hope the campaigns realize that this mess is on the verge of going viral among dem primary voters who pay attention to what's going on.

1. Edwards is a good and honest man. He deserves this presidency.

4. I don't agree that he's the best candidate (obviously)
and I think he's the weakest in a general due to his very limited resources. And no, there's nothing he can do about it. If he's the nominee, pukes will bury him under an avalanche of swiftboating advertising, and he'll be unable to effectively respond. Even 527s aren't enough of a help. Our only hope would be that the pukes don't have a nominee until their convention- in that case JE would crush their nominee.

9. Actaully he is the strongest
In any head to head with the republicans, and I think you have seen that posted here many times. :eyes: No matter who wins, or how much money they have, the republicans are going to "swiftboat" them. He can and will respond.

What you fail to realize is that it's the "message", and how a person stands on the issues that will win the general. You can have all the money in the world, but if you don't have a plan, or a message that the people want to hear, it won't win you the election. And I am proud to say that Edwards has the best message out there, and when the people hear him they know that. Edwards is the "best" shot we have to take the Whitehouse back, and the republicans know it, that's why they have pretty much waged a media blackout on him.

11. 2008 is a different race
People will be voting much more heavily based on "pocketbook" issues because the Bush economy is finally beginning to hurt a lot of people. Swiftboat attacks and smear campaigning aren't going to get their attention.

15. It will be ALL ECONOMY by this sunner/fall. It's a Recession, folks.
We NEED John Edwards.

He's the only one talking big investments in Our country. In Us.

16. I don't buy it.
I mean I buy the recession part, but I don't see that the economic proposals of any of the top three differ substantially. He's hardly the only one proposing big investments in the country. In fact, Clinton proposed a large investment to deal with recession today.

17. His entire campaign has been based on lifting People out of Poverty.
He has been running for years on helping the poor and exploited in this country. He entered the campaign with New Deal-like plans. There will only be more having hard times in the near future.

But, ANY of the Democrats plans will far surpass the pukes, who will propose nothing but saving big profits for their big buddies.

21. Security, however, will also be an issue
And Edwards' image as a fighter, his strength and his caring will make voters feel secure. Neither Obama nor Hillary have the ability to make Americans feel secure. Obama's image is that of a "nice guy" who talks but has no experience taking action. Hillary's image is that of an angry person, not a person of calm strength. Edwards projects the image of a person who has fought all his life for himself and others and who is ready to take on the world if need be in order to protect America.

13. um, not anymore he's not- though if this imbroglio keeps up
it could weaken both Obama and Clinton. I've explained it before: Edwards has not yet been framed by the pukes and the media as will surely happen if he's the nom. He cannot respond and it's just a denial of reality to say he can. 527s cannot do candidate ads. He's be silenced for months if there's a repuke candidate before the convention.

And of course you can win if you have enough money, message be damned. bushie is a case in point. And simply because it's your opinion that Edwards has a winning message doesn't make it true. In Iowa and NH, voters didn't think so- and those were dem voters in states he's spent a lot of time in and had lots of local media coverage.

Money is the bottom line. It's terrible that it's true, but there really is no denying it.

24. Kerry had a LOT of money and he LOST.
Obama and Clinton are ALREADY weak candidates as far as the general election in November is concerned. Their candidacies as far as the GENERAL election is concerned is between tweedledum and tweedledee.

Clinton's husband gave us NAFTA, media DEregulation, continued Most Favored Nation trading status to China in spite of that country's not meeting standards for granting it, so-called welfare "reform", etc., etc. He failed to use the office of the presidency to push through health care "reform", and Hillary failed dismally at it. On top of that, Hillary has already been thoroughly "demonized" by the right-wing over the past several years. She is "damaged goods" and would be a pushover for any Republican candidate.

While Obama would be far preferable to "business as usual" Clinton, he is a light weight when it comes to dealing with the corporations. If he thinks he is going to sit down with the corporations and convince them to easily give up the advantages they have had thus far to pillage this country to gain unseemly wealth, he is delusional. No amount of money is going to help him when he doesn't seem to understand the seriousness of the situation.

Only John Edwards has come face to face in the courtroom with the corporations, where he had to convince a group of "ordinary" Americans of the rightness of his cause, and he succeeded in winning his case.

Anyone who is serious about winning the election in November, AND making REAL change in the situation in this country will support John Edwards with time and money and help him stay in this race and help him win in November.

25. The Repiglicans Have Far More Resources Than We Do, No Matter Who Our Candidate Is
They own all the networks. The networks give the Repigs the equivalent of several BILLION dollars in free advertising every campaign. No matter who we run.

and I think he's the weakest in a general due to his very limited resources. And no, there's nothing he can do about it. How does Obama (or Hillary Clinton for that matter) have more "resources" in the general election than Edwards would?

26. Do you trust Obama's political instincts after his fumbling this week?
He has fallen right into a, whether intentional or inadvertent, Clinton campaign trap. Imagine how bad he would do if he had to face real racists.

While Obama is rallying and empowering voters, as opposed to disenfranchising them.

Bill and Hillary have been on the Radio Talk shows circuit and Tv Shows in full spin control mode. Watch tomorrow for both hil/bill to show up everywhere. :eyes:

20. What ugliness has there been from Obama or his campaign? ...
I know that, as in the case of the two parties' Conventions in 04, this might not determine public perceptions (polls showed people thought the DEMOCRATIC Convention, with so little negativity, was more negative than the Repug hatefest), but still, we should keep our perspective

I also notice on DU that there are TONS of threads, say, making the most preposterous accusations about Obama and gay rights, COMPLETELY unjustified by the evidence, and only modestly challenged, while any sort of 'edgy' addressing of serious issues (in which I include BOTH the exit poll/reported results divergence in NH AND the apparent pattern of deliberately stirring the race issue from the HRC campaign and NATIONALLY KNOWN supporters) gets pilloried by nasty trolling & invective of the worst kind

Of course, this observation will seem biased, including to some who supposedly have no agenda, but the facts point very clearly in this direction if you follow the board closely.

19. Pssst...he's also a really good guy...
His presentation of detailed and very progressive policies early on are at least somewhat responsible for the other two getting more specific, and probably for also going more to the left. He's got a good mix of inclusion and confrontation, too, lest we forget.

Calmly think about this, too: if he can chart the course he has and still be very much in the fight after being ignored by the media and radically outspent, he's got something that people can latch onto. Don't mistake that pronouncement of being ignored by the media, either: the other two are really big stories in their own right, and the two-way story is almost a guarantee by the way news works. Even if it's not an evil consipracy of silence by the monied communications moguls, he's simply not as good a story as the other two, and that's just the way it goes.

Through all of this, he's had a flinty but optimistic view of a future that resonates in a way that is very healthy. The explanation of requiring assisted college students to work while in school with the drawled quip of "and you know what? It won't hurt 'em a bit" not only rings authentic, but makes progressivism not only palatable to reactionary clods, but actually a reasonably good idea.

I'm very proud of him; he's really stood his ground and stood for all of us, and I hope more see the point of this guy.

23. It is absolutely one of the best things that can happen to JRE!
Proves No Corporate Backing...well along with http://opensecrets.org/pres08/summary.asp?ID=N00002283&Cycle=2008

He is the only candidate whose purse strings belong to the American people. I don’t want a corporate backed candidate who will act as a negotiator between the corporations and the American worker. This is not the time to “hope” for change….this is not time to “work” for change” this is the time to act! John Edwards is the only candidate who has placed himself in a position to act. He is truly running on the peoples ticket…true democracy.
This is the time to act, as our economy continues to decline. Many blue collar jobs have gone overseas or across the border, many white collar jobs are following, yet these corporations continue to make record profits, leaving the American worker headed for financial disaster. Private war corporations like Halliburton, KBR, Titan, Blackwater, and the “big boys of oil” etc. continue to collect their blood money, their greed is endless! They have become very, very powerful, this must end. Tax loopholes must end. Laws need to be enacted to penalize corporations who abandon American ground in search for cheap labor, not reward corporations for moving! Companies winning no bid contracts for private war corporate profits must end!
Many average Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and many more stand to lose their jobs and will lose their homes. Gasoline prices continue to soar. The housing market continues to decline. Goods continue to rise. Homelessness is up. Those without health insurance continues to rise. The dollar continues to decline. I hate to sound like an alarmist, but we are in trouble folks, we need someone who will act on behalf of the American people. John Edwards message is not being heard. The Democrats running on the backs of the corporations who have given millions of dollars to them are certainly looking for more favors after the election. We don’t need another corporate politician negotiating on behalf of the corporations, we need a president for the people by the people….there is only one candidate running on that ticket…and that is John Edwards!
