Red State Democrats see Obama as having coattails
with Obama getting support from Ben Nelson, Claire McCaskill, Tim Kaine , Tim Johnson, Kent Conrad etc these red state Dems see him as a guy that could help them to stay in office with the large turnouts he brings.

the huge turnouts he is getting from young and new voters will benefit Democrats around the country.

1. I wish I could believe that, but I can't!
I'm old, and I can't even count the elections that have "counted on the youth vote" and were sorely disappointed! I know there was a youth turnout in Iowa and that's a good sign, but it's going to take a lot more places than Iowa to convince ME than there's going to be a difference this time.

2. it's not a youth thing
people wouldn't vote for Hillary (independents and Repugs who have seen their party abandon them) would vote for Obama

3. and that's a whole 'nother discussion too!
a lot of young people get all excited and drawn in by shiny things in life, and we know how unreliable they are statistically when it comes to voting. they are active in helping pick the eventual nominee, but, as your point duly states - won't they eventually lose interest and vote in the low turnout that we're accustomed to... which is sad.

4. Don't forget Gov. Janet Napolitano over in Arizona!
And forget the naysayers.......
it ain't about what people think you can't do that ends up making the difference,

By the time a few primaries come and go, we'll be able to see much better what Barack can do...Although so far, he's doing quite well.

5. It's a matter of Hillary Clinton having NEGATIVE "coat tails" nt
Although that comes out sounding odd, due to the gender issues involved. But the point remains -- it's Hillary that is the issue more than Obama, as fair as "coat-tails" are concerned.
