Question regarding a grassroots action we could possibly implement:

Granted, I'm an Edwards supporter, so the issue of him being discounted in large part by the media - and examples of this are being posted daily - hit me hard.

But what if the same were happening to your candidate? What if the powers that be decided who THEY want to be in the race, rather than whose name(s) are still on the ballot and the voters SHOULD know more about him/her?

What if we could encourage local media outlets to focus on this as a news story...how the media influences EVERYTHING, but in this case the political process. I'm sure they'd be afraid of the powers that be coming down on THEM, but maybe we can come up with an approach to talk someone into covering it and taking it on as a cause. After all, going against the grain is often the best way to get attention (e.g., Mika on MSNBC rebelling against Britney stories).

What if we can talk local media outlets into joining our grassroots campaign to demand unbiased campaign coverage?

It's not an issue for me, as I'm in Raleigh and they do cover JRE because he's from here. But, again, I'd be pissed if the same were happening to Hillary and Obama. I'm not sure if it needs to be that focus is equal for "the top three," "the top four," or what...but it's never good when they make it a two-person race. Too much can happen for campaigns to implode.

1. We've had a grassroots movement going
to support impeachment for the past 2 or more years, and anti-war movement which has been going on for over 5 years. We couldn't get it anything done. Now there seems to be a little coverage, but I wouldn't put a lot of faith in grassroots movements.

2. I know, and it's the lack of coverage that is, in large part, the problem.
That's why I'm wondering if targeting the media itself, and those at local levels who may want to be PART of a grassroots movement, may be an option.

We often bombard the national media, and it seems to help a bit, but not enough. That's why I bring up the issue of local media grassroots efforts in a very concerted manner.

Maybe someone here knows one local media person who may have the courage to take on the cause, and from there we reference so-and-so as taking on the national media in its biased coverage, encouraging others to be courageous, and so on.

3. I'm just going to keep talking to myself...
WTF else is new? :eyes: ;-)

I think we all dislike the fact that so much money is involved in the process. And, since so much money is involved, is it not a "consumer" issue?

If so, perhaps we contact the local consumer advocate reporters we all see going after local businesses who are taking advantage of local viewers.

Why not see if they'll take this topic on as a consumer advocate?

I'm going to try that with the local consumer reporter. I'm going to research here and put together a summary email with regard to how much money is involved in the process, how the fairness of the election process is called very much into question, and how press coverage often is misleading and/or leaves viewers in the dark.

Our political process is very much an issue of BUYER BEWARE, IMHO.

4. It has happened to my candidate, Dennis Kucinich
and there is no way any local stations here are going to do a program on that. I'm banking on building up the internet as a news source and sharing files with others that way--and making DVDs for those not online.
