18. When a candidate puts their character at issue I think it's fair game

Bush's born again Evangelism was a big issue in his campaign in 2000. His swearing off of the wayward lifetsyle of his carefree youth of his mid 40s was something he made a big point of, to appeal to his base. I frankly don't think drug use is a major issue, unless the Presdential candidate is still taking large amounts of drugs, in which case it can affect his performance in office. But if a candidate lies about it when questioned, then character is again at issue as honesty is a quality we expect in our candidates. If I were a candidate, I would honestly admit to drug use in my youth and say 'so what?'
