Barry Goldwater responding to Falwell's argument against confirming Sandra Day O'Connor to the Supreme Court.

You see, little Johnny, there was a time in this country, not so long ago, where there were Republicans who were not governed by right wing extremists hell-bent on controlling and screwing everyone. Yesterday's Republicans are todays Democrats. It's become all about the money and who has the power to make those with money, more money - ethics and principles have been tossed into a landfill somewhere.

4. The hell of it is, in Goldwater's day he WAS a republican extremist.
The republicans, following Nixon's lead, have dragged the country so far to the right that Goldwater looks like a moderate, today; and today, he WOULD be a moderate.
