Obama and embracing running as a black candidate
Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 06:12 PM by quinnox
I don't understand why Obama himself has avoided talking about this race thing going on between his campaign and the Clinton's. He sends his campaign supporters out there and they talk about it but he doesn't. If Obama is offended or whatever why not talk about it.

Also, why not run as a black candidate? He doesn't seem to emphasize this much, but I think he should. This is a remarkable rise for him, and him being a black man makes it very special. Talk about how hard it is for black people to compete in the high stakes world of U.S. politics. And how he has accomplished this and so on.

2. Because that doesn't make white people feel so GOOD about themselves.
We're not gonna talk about all that slavery, racism stuff.

3. He said the claims were ludicrous
Clyburn is the one who said the campaigns should be careful with their words. The Clintons are the ones who said it came from Obama's campaign, which Obama said was ludicrous.

4. He is running as a national candidate.
He has been since he announced in February. Black candidates running as black candidates are always
marginalized as only representing black voters. Obama is asking all of us to rise above the differences
that keep us from moving forward toward creating new solutions. That is why his campaign is historic.

Please listen carefully to his message. Go to his website and select a speech. http://www.barackobama.com/tv/

6. NOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to say something that's very insulting to my people, but I'll do it anyway.

Let's say that Barack Obama had a HUGE wart on his nose. It's been there since he was born. It has impacted how people see him, the double take he gets when he walks in the room. People wonder if it's cancerous. This has been going on for as long as he can remember.

And his rivals talk about him as the candidate with the wart on his nose.

Now, you want him to go out and talk about how important it is, given the struggles he's been through having a wart on his nose, to be the banner for every other American born with a wart, to show that people who have warts on their noses, despite years of discrimination, bullying, getting beaten up on playgrounds, never getting the major hero or heroine roles in plays, etc.... well, gosh golly, you can STILL BE PRESIDENT.

No.

He can save all of that melodrama for his acceptance speech.

BTW: Substitute huge wart for 5' tall, and you get the same issue. Winning is NOT about discussing your handicaps.
