What this nation has become: BUSH-CLINTON-BUSH-CLINTON
Or--
Did Clinton's Impeachment help give us Bush in the 2000 Election?

Did we really experience 8 years of hell partially due to the Clinton legacy?

If so, why in the hell are we indicating that we want Clintons back in the white House?

Are we out of our cotton pickin' minds?

In 2000, Morality was mentioned most frequently by Republicans as the "single most important problem" facing the nation.<36> Therefore during his campaign Bush frequently referred to restoring moral integrity not only to the White House but to the nation as a whole.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._presidential_election,_2000

Perhaps the most important, but seldom mentioned, factor in the outcome was the impact of the Clinton scandals. 68% of voters thought Clinton would go down in history more for his scandals than for his leadership. 44% said that the scandals were somewhat to very important and 57% thought the country to be on the wrong moral track.

- In short, the individual who did the most harm to Gore (aside from himself) was Bill Clinton. If Gore could have distanced himself from the Clinton moral miasma he would probably be president today.

- Clinton hurt in other ways, most notably in the damage his administration did to other Democratic officeholders, again something Democrats don't want to face.

During the Clinton administration, Democrats lost over 1,200 state legislative seats. Further, the Democrats lost control of 9 legislatures and for the first time since 1954 the GOP controlled more state legislatures than the Democrats.

In addition, the GOP won almost more than 40 seats in the House, 8 in the Senate, 11 governorships and 439 Democratic officeholders switched to the Democratic Party. Only three Republicans went the other way.

In short, the Clinton administration was a disaster for the Democrats.

IS THIS THE BEST THAT WE CAN DO?

"Modern politics seems to require and reward some capacities that I don't think I have in abundance such as a tolerance for spin rather than an honest discussion of substance.

Apparently, it comes easily for some people, but not for me.....The sighs, the sighs, the sighs. Within 18 hours, they had turned perception around to where the entire story was about me sighing. And that's scary. That's scary."

12. I don't necessarily agree with the OP, but it's fair to rally against Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton.
It's certainly not the worst case used against Hillary here on DU.

Personally, I would like to see Edwards or Obama as the nominee.

But god knows if Hillary wins the nomination, she's ten times better than any of the GOP candidates. And I'll gladly support her, donate to her, and volunteer on behalf of her.

I am not a Clinton supporter, but if the Democratic voters choose her, so be it.

5. More GOP talking points
We need to stop letting the Republicans manipulate our nomination process. Why should I care what reason Republicans claimed they voted against Gore? They were going to vote against him no matter what.

7. Well to be fair it would be Bush, Clinton, Bush, Rodham
I'm sure there have been family dynasties that involved non-blood relatives in the past, but as far as I'm concerned Hillary is not a Clinton. I don't support her BTW, just pointing out the obvious.

No, if Gore hadn't distanced himself from one of the best political speakers and fundraisers this country has ever seen, he might be president.

21. Clinton left office with the highest approval rating of any post-WWII president - 65%
Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 04:07 PM by TwilightZone
Historical revisionism seems rather rampant around here.

If you don't think that Gore distanced himself from Clinton, you weren't paying very close attention. He did everything he could to pretend Clinton/Gore never existed. Huge mistake.

I thought it was generally accepted in hindsight that Gore distanced himself too much from Clinton in the 2000 election campaign.

In 1994, the Dems in Congress got killed. Every election until 2002 afterwards they had net gains in Congress.

Forty-four years. Why have elections. There are only two families in the entire nation that should ever govern.

Get in line. And how dare you offer such a question.

37. Did Clinton's Impeachment help give us Bush in the 2000 Election
I always thought it was the Supreme Court...

----------------------

Run against the Clinton legacy if you think that will help. I think it's a foolish strategy for the Obama supporters to take. Most people look back on those eight years of peace and prosperity with a good deal of fondness. The only people I remember complaining were Republicans and the far left. Is that who the Obama camp really wants to associate themselves with?
