Hillary plays the fear card

Hillary And Obama Square Off Over Terrorism And Fear

By Greg Sargent - January 15, 2008, 10:50PM

A key moment at the debate: Hillary and Obama squared off over terrorism, and the role that fear should play in our political life and in setting foreign policy.

First, Hillary was asked, in essence, whether she was playing the "fear card" against Obama when she raised the possibility of a terror attack testing the new president. Her answer:

The fact is that we face a very dangerous adversary and to forget that, to brush it aside, I think is a mistake. So I do feel that the next president has to be prepared. Because we are up against a relentless enemy. They will take advantage of us. They will certainly, as they have over the last several years, continue their attacks against our friends and allies around the world.

Obama, asked to respond, comes as close as possible to linking Hillary's rhetoric with Rovian fear-mongering:

I have to say that when Senator Clinton uses the specter of a terrorist attack with a new PM during a campaign, I think that is part and parcel with what we've seen with the use of the fear of terrorism in scoring political points. Which I think is a mistake. Now I don't want to perpetuate that. I think that's part of why we ended up going into Iraq. And made a big strategic error that has made us less safe.

You probably couldn't ask for a moment that contrasts the candidates as well as this one did.

6. True Dat - in spite not liking the theme. But she used Obama "Ill have the vision
others will deal with the bureaucracy" well in this one.

18. Yes, and today I almost wrote how Obama doesn't understand the role of president..
He said bluntly, he'd surround himself with hired people putting forth different ideas and "bring their ideas together" which says to me.. The Captain of the ship has to know the course he intends to follow before he takes the wheel. Obama's notion of bringing people together is a disaster for the American people because he hasn't the depth of knowledge to get us out of this mess as quickly as possible, which will surely plummet this country into a depression.

Hillary knows what needs to be done immediately and she has the plans in her hand ready to act on them on day one. She's not kidding.. Of Obama and Edwards, neither is suitable for the presidency in the current state of affairs of our country. It seems they are oblivious to the urgency of our sinking economy.

9. You didn't complain about it when Kerry did the same thing in 2004
when he went on record claiming how he would be a better killer of terrorists than Bush would.

Funny how selectively critical you always are.

13. Yes, she was "on a roll" at one point, I thought that she'd threaten to ...
withhold our "chocolate rations" if we don't elect her. :scared:

Animals will bear these facts
The Pope will join the act
We'll all will get new shoes
When Hillary snags the nomination. :D

15. So what you are saying is basically obama will be like bush
if he is elected and forgo any intelligence reports like those left for bush and condi by the clinton administration folks about al queda being the biggest terrorist threat. With that laid back attitude and big ass grin we all better be worried if he is president.

19. They are but they don't know it..
Obama looked very stressed and dehydrated at the debate. He looked worried about how his performance would affect the SC and Nev Elections. He confidence level was almost nil, gaging the moderator questions was an imperative for him making sure he understood the information and actually answered the question asked.

The race is definitely between Obama and Clinton. Edwards was so much 'wall art' with his attempted lubrication of the moderators with his impassioned stump rhetoric. His passionate language had zero effect on the pros..and did nothing to enhance the prospect of his candidacy as a threat, never mind viable, at this point in time. Both candidates pale in comparison to Hillary's girth of knowledge and scope of understanding the problems we're facing with solid solutions at her fingertips.

You can't make wise decisions cowering in fear. That's been the problem for the last 6 years.
