Winning a debate does not mean you win votes
If it did, Al Gore would be President.

A person can outargue another, but if they do it too hot or in ways that do not inspire confidence they will not get a vote.

Look at our boards...usually someone does win the argument, but if you got too brutal doing it, you win no converts.

3. Sometimes when you win you really lose. And sometimes when you lose you really win.

From the movie: White Men Can't Jump

I think she meant gambling though. Still, it was an opportunity for me to use the quote!

4. I wasn't even looking for a "winner".

I was visualizing if I could see the person speaking as President and evaluating my confidence in them.

I was also judging the character of the person and seeing if they were gracious, respectful, thoughtful, funny and genuine.

Listening to the pundits commentary afterward I was thinking they were judging this all wrong. JMHO of course.

6. Badmouthing the other candidate and her supporters over and over again. Now THAT wins you votes.
