Hello,
I wanted to share some information now that I have received my primary ballot here in Arizona. Its my first time voting in a primary in Arizona. I relocated from California not too long ago.
The first is I was pretty overwhelmed by the number of names on the ballot. I know primarys typically have a more diverse selection of candidates including ones that will not have been heard of on a national level but this was actually more than I had expected.
There are 24 candidates on the democratic ballot. I googled a few of the names and came up with this website Project Whitehouse.
If you read their "about" page
http://projectwhitehouse.wordpress.com/about/It basically says
Project White House is a bold new experiment in Reality Journalism brought to you by the Tucson Weekly. At least 14 of the Democrats on Arizona’s Feb. 5 presidential primary ballot, as well as 10 of the GOP candidates, are participating in Project White House. These courageous men and women are putting forward their vision to lead our great nation. The candidates will compete in a variety of campaign challenges, with the ultimate winner in both parties capturing the coveted Tucson Weekly endorsement. On this blog, the candidates in Project White House will have an opportunity to post press releases, official campaign statements and platform positions, as well as links to their own Web sites.
And almost nothing more informational about what this really is? But from the given description I am not feeling very amused by "reality journalism" idea?
But the more important item to me was the ballot itself. I choose to get an early voter ballot because I knew it would be on paper NOT on a diebold machine right? Well in my humble opinion they've done a dandy job of making the worst possible paper ballot that they could have come up with. I hope to take a digital picture of it and link it here later.
Essential this ballot uses a system of you have to draw a line from one side of the paper to another side of a paper to complete a little "arrow" to point at who you want to vote for? Is anyone schooled in the methodology of paper ballots and scanning technology enough to know if this is supposed to be a "good" idea?
I am accustomed to (working in the education industry) the idea of scantron forms with "fill in the box or bubble" concepts and I fear (perhaps without cause) this new method is to try and make it more difficult for people to vote?
Any thoughts on the above are welcome for discussion as they will be on my mind today as I make my final decision on who to vote for in my primary before I 'connect the arrow'.
peace
