Nader is threatening to run simply because he can. It's like a grudge thing.
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 01:12 PM by LoZoccolo
This is from an article about Sunday's Green Party "debate".

Also on hand — not participating in the debate but taking questions afterward — was Ralph Nader, the Green Party presidential candidate in 2000 and 2004, who hasn't yet ruled out another run this year. Some Greens and other high-profile figures are urging him not to run and expressing concern that he's become a polarizing figure who could hurt the party. Nader addressed the issue of party unity by saying, "I have very little to offer about how to unite the Green Party internally."

But he told the Guardian that if powerful institutional forces collude to limit his or the Green Party nominee's access to the ballot, as he charges they did in 2004, he might run to highlight the need for greater political participation, saying, "I'll be deciding within the next month." Nader has sued the Democratic Party, the John Kerry–John Edwards campaign, the Service Employees International Union, and a number of law firms and political action committees for allegedly conspiring to prevent him from running for president in 2004.

Spoiling just to preserve his right to spoil. Yeah, that's important. Remember, he got in trouble for his ballot petitions last time, and has the nerve to get upset that the Democrats stood on the side of law & order in elections.

10. He's already stated that he WOULDN'T run against Edwards
But would run against Clinton or Obama.

His take -- his mere presence drives the debate more towards issues that he thinks are important as the candidates scramble to persuade his voters to come to them. So he feels that he is serving a valuable purpose.

I'm not saying this is right -- just saying that this is how he views things.

6. Nader is threatening to run
I wish someone would investigate Nader's funding, of both his Presidential runs and his non-profit group.

I wouldnt be surprised if GOP front organizations werent funneling money to him.

9. Lots of Republicans fund Nader and the Green Party too.
Here's an article on Nader's 2004 funding:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/07/09/MNGQQ7J31K1.DTL

Carl Romanelli, the Green Party Senate candidate running in an election where the Democrat was trying to unseat Rick Santorum, recieved all his funding from Republicans save for one donation from himself:

11. Who's responsible
Who's responsible for the following?:
1. A war In Iraq
2. No expansion of SCHIP?
3. 4,000 dead soldiers in Iraq
4. 250,000 at least dead Iraqi civilians
5. The creation of an imperial presidency with executive signing statements, etc.
6. A showdown with Iran that could escalate to war
7. The U.S. withdrawing from Kyoto and not giving a darn about global warming.
8. A war policy going very badly in Afghanistan.
9. Desperate citizens being left in the lurch in Lousiania after the worst hurricane in U.S. history?
10. Everything else that you don't like about George W. Bush

Yep, it's Ralph Nader. He single handedly handed the presidency to Bush in 2000 against Gore and made the theft possible.

Ugh, I cannot begin to express the depths of my political hatred for this man. He needs to exit the national scene. Sometimes, I wonder if the GOP has paid him off to run against democrats to try to divide our vote.

Ugh.

24. This article contains an error, Nader wasn't the Green candidate in 2004.
He ran on his own that year, with no party apparatus. He ran as a Green in 1996 (write-in campaign) and in 2000. David Cobb was the Green candidate in 2004.

A good front line type job, going house-to-house looking for insurgents in known violent neighborhoods. After all, his help in electing a Republican has ensured that plenty of young men and women get to do that.

God, how I loathe this man. How he could have taken such a proud legacy and pissed it all away through egoism and conceit is beyond me.

And for such a stupid result. The "President" Ralphie helped enthrone has done more to dismantle his previous efforts than anyone else could ever imagine.

David Cobb was.

And, quite frankly- given the perfomance of the so called "leadership" in the Democratic party these past few years, and their success in furthering the far right agenda- it wouldn't surprise me if Nader ran again.
