Clinton Shines In Vegas
After a slow start bogged down by a show of unity that bordered on blather, the Democratic debate in Las Vegas managed to reveal important character traits. We learned that Sen. Hillary Clinton (D., NY) wants to be the hands-on CEO, Sen. Barack Obama (D., Ill.) prefers being an inspirational leader, and John Edwards likes the role of the fierce fighter.

When the debate turned to policy, the three Democrats agreed on most issues. But deciding who won the debate came down to critical differences to answers on three big issues: the economy, energy policy and foreign policy. On these issues Clinton asserted her knowledge on policy issues and dominated Edwards and Obama.

Economy: The Devilish Details
Edwards constantly argues he wants to fight special interests on behalf of the middle class and the poor. He certainly came through on this as a litigator when he could earn big money for himself and his client.
But his Senate record shows he voted twice for a precursor of the 2005 bankruptcy bill. He voted for it in 2001, when a version died because of a pocket veto of President Bill Clinton, and again voted in favor of it in 2002 with Bush in office.

10. Hillary said in New Hampshire that she knows what's going on
in this country, and she proved that in Nevada.

9. fout is very insightful ... particularly in this line,
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 05:21 PM by flordehinojos
"Clinton grasps (the) importance (that) ... Lofty ideas on diplomacy have to be seconded by strong measures of preparedness."

I particularly see this line as an assertion of hillary's leadership qualities, her clear headedness, and a direct contradiction to barack obama's charge that hillary is using "terror as a political tool in the same way that geoge w. bush has used terror," because, there is in fact a difference between using terror as a constant tool to inflict fear and panic in a nation, and the know knowledge that there are people out there who might want to do harm to the united states and against whom the united states has to be prepared to respond should they try to inflict pain on the u.s.

it was in fact obama who used terror last night in nevada as a political tool against hillary when he tried to assert that hillary was using terror in the same way that gwb. has used it.

brian williams and obama thought they could slide that one under the door and, in fact, rachel maddow and even keith olberman fell for it. how sad.

11. I was very impressed by her ready knowledge, and
clearly stated positions, on the issues. I think all of our candidates did well ... but she was really on target. I think she'll make an excellent President, if nominated.
