Something that's bothered me about the Clintons since Bill left office
is how close they've become to the Bushes. To the point where Poppy Bush says he thinks of Bill like he was another son. What are your opinions on this? I don't like it. The Bush family are part of the true Axis of Evil. :scared:

~snip~

Born after his father's death, Bill Clinton has spent his life searching for connection. His need for approval was, arguably, the yearning that propelled him all the way to the White House.

Now it appears Clinton has found his surrogate family. He is part of a sprawling clan, legendary for its warmth and unity. It is a clan that is so accustomed to acquiring surrogate sons and daughters that adoption has become a part of its strength.

Clinton has become a member of the Bush clan.

1. BS. Sometimes former Presidents get linked together.
Clinton is warm and friendly to everyone. Calling him part of the Bush clan is a slur.

3. Clinton is liked by most of the world's leaders. He is hated more at home
than abroad.

5. I liked Bill Clinton during his presidency
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 09:45 AM by rox63
I voted for him twice. Since he left office, that's when he started sinking in my estimation.

6. WHAT? Clinton is loved in this country outside of
fanatic extreme right wingers and GOP talk radio. Have you ever read any of the articles where reporters follow Bill around on an average day? Most people approach him and tell him they wish he was still President. He's popular wherever he goes.

2. Give him a break...Bill is the successful son Poppy never had.
Look at his other sons...liars, crooks, megalomaniac drunks who destroy the world. A boy who gets a lil' sumpin' probably makes him proud, and helps him forget about his Satan spawn.

7. Yeah, that's what worries me
He's too beloved by the Bushes to let a new Clinton admin uncover the truth about the crimes committed by * and co.

8. People without Bill's sense of decency don't understand his actions.
Yes, WJC has cultivated a relationship with Poppy Bush. But for what reason?

Personal gain? -- Nope, no sign of that.
Fame? -- As if he needed more.
Political power? He is gaining absolutely none by hanging with Poppy.

So what then? WHY is Bill so palsy with GHW Bush?

Maybe it's because Bill Clinton is fifty or sixty times a better human being than his detractors give him credit for being. That is, maybe Clinton's reason for associating with Poppy Bush are EXACTLY what it looks like they are, what both he and Bush SAY they are...

To stop the spread of AIDS...
To provide relief for the wretched refugees of Tsunami's and hurricanes...
To use their mutual influence to combat woirld hunger.

Bill Clinton will deal with the devil in order to accomplish something good.

Clinton-haters will deal with the devil to try to assault and insult Clinton.

9. Why did Bill help cover up the crimes of Poppy Bush's administration?
What makes you believe another Clinton admin won't do the same for *?

11. Bill and Bush Sr, traveled the world together
They also are members of an elite group; ex-Presidents. But have you seen much direct reference to Hillary being particulary close to the Bush Sr?

Assuming you are now or have in the past been in a significant long term relationship, haven't you experienced instances where one partner or another develops some kind of close bond with someone who the other partner does not share such a personal bond with?

Hillary and Bill are certainly political allies, but they are not one being. One advantage I think Hillary has over Bill is she is less caught up in wanting to be loved by everyone. On a fundemental level, she is different from Bill in that way, and I think that will help her not always try to be all things for all people should she become President.

14. Understood. But from all reports it is personal chemistry...
...between Bill Clinton Sr. and George Bush Sr. that is drawing them together. Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford developed personal chemistry also, which to my mind is a more benign pairing, but ex-Presidents frequently feel some solidarity with those who also held the same office. Tip O'Neil and Ronald Reagen had a warm personal relationship also.

Many here have commented in the past that Bush Sr's foreign policy team has consistently opposed George Bush Jr's foreign policy, having more in common with Bill Clinton than they did with the Elder Bush's son. I'm sure Bush the Elder and Bill Clinton have made some of the same observations.

But to the point, I haven't seen evidence of a personal bond between Hillary Clinton and the Bush clan, have you?

17. It's absolutely wrong. Bill is using the traditional codes of protocol,
as if he doesn't remember that when the time came for the Republicans to give him respect as a president, they instead, sodomized him by breaking with tradition, and taking a treasonous course.

That will never change. Now that the Republicans know they can break every code of protocol, and never even be criticized for it, you can expect them to do it again. And the Democrats just bend over and spread their cheeks for them. It's disgusting.

19. Bill is doing it for political reasons - nothing new
Bill is reaching out to the right wing here. Nothing new. Why do you think he pushed for welfare reform and took on Sista Soulja?

But let's face it: Clinton probably also enjoys George HW Bush's company. Both men are part of a very, very small club. I've heard that George HW Bush is pleasant enough to be around. I'm sure the guy has tons of interesting stories to tell. Pretty much everyone in Kennebunkport likes him (on a superficial, personal level at least) but they can't stand his wife.

I voted against HW Bush. If you as me, he was involved - at least on some level - with the Kennedy assassination. But he's a shining star compared to his son.

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.
