13. No! I have never heard a word about that happening ~

are you serious?

I can't believe that Princess Hillary would make a mistake like that, she has so much "experience."

17. "The Hillary gig no one will talk about"

from the Village Voice:

http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0509,lombardi1,61604,6.html/full

-snip-

It came in a January 19 speech in Boston that made headlines there, with Clinton appearing in a Globe photograph alongside the host, Reverend Eugene Rivers III, one of the state's most outspoken opponents of same-sex marriage.

Clinton had traveled there to attend a benefit for Rivers's youth-outreach program, known as the National Ten Point Leadership Foundation, which promotes faith-based solutions to gang violence and urban crime.

-snip-

The affair's host was Reverend Eugene Rivers III, the spiritual leader of the Pentecostal Azusa Christian Community and a prominent black minister willing to do business with the Bush White House. On January 25, he was among a coterie of clergy who met with President Bush in Washington. His Ten Point foundation has benefited from federal funding thanks to the administration's faith-based program. And Rivers has appeared in documents issued by the White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives pushing one of its most controversial elements—that faith-based agencies be allowed to ignore state and local anti-discrimination laws but still receive federal money.

And then there's his outspoken stance against same-sex marriage. Last year, in the battle for civil-marriage rights for gay couples in Massachusetts, Rivers aligned himself with the most extreme opponents. He showed up at forums hosted by the anti-gay Family Research Council. He lent his celebrity to a radio ad paid for by Your Catholic Voice that declared: "Same-sex unions are really about 'special rights' for a special interest group."

Just a week before he shared the spotlight with Senator Clinton in Boston, he sounded a similar theme at Calvin College, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, arguing in a January 11 address that the words "civil rights" have been co-opted by those who support full equality for gay couples. Then Rivers revealed his true conservative colors:

"Frequently, same-sex couples wanting to marry are white lesbians who seek the accoutrements of family life and the proverbial white picket fence," he told the crowd. "From their positions of socioeconomic privilege, they insist that their desires must be viewed as rights instead of preferences."

21. You forgot to include the long pause..
to allow the spin-cycle to move on to the next outrage before the apology is discretely tendered.

4. I forgot, which outrages are we talking about now?
I forget, since every day there is a new faux outrage for one of the frontrunners.

Hillary is supposed to be in the KKK, Obama is supposed to be a gay-hating fundy, Edwards is supposed to be Rove's secret lover...I forget what we're all supposed to be upset about...

8. I think I remember this one:
This is where Hillary suggested that MLK was a gay minister who LBJ converted to being straight, but McClurkin said that J Edgar Hoover was a nasty transvestite, and then Kucinich remembered seeing Hoover on a UFO that took him to Venus. Then Edwards took a second mortgage on his $40 brazillian home to finance his next haircut, and Hillary cackled and Obama said Reagan had pretty hair.

I have no idea who the fuck Bob Johnson, although there was a Bob Johnson who quarterbacked our high school football team when we ran the wishbone. Why would he apologize for that?

22. Faux is pretty much all of the outrages I've seen here on DU
Whether it's that Obama had a homophobe on his tour...or whether Hillary made some dumbass comments...or whatever...

Personally, I haven't found a candidate running in the Dem Primary that I wouldn't vote for. I like them all, and the outrages people have been coming up with against one candidate or another is just fucking petty.

5. That was a real shame. I'm sure many of us know gay people who have lived...
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 02:41 PM by annie1
with religious wingnuts who have made them feel like sinners for being who they are. I knew someone who dealt with that and it was awful. He could never tell them, and the family even spoke about gays being sinners at his funeral. really really disgusting. and Obama shoulda thought twice before putting an ex-gay preacher on tour.

when i watch that video of people cheering when he's talking about being delivered from homosexuality and suffering from the feelings, i find it really sad and angry for the gay people who's family members are cheering over it, or young gay people in the audience who pray such feelings go away.

27. Clinton is definitely not homophobic. I don't believe Edwards is either.
You're right about the politics part however. Believe he started running for President I really had a great deal of respect and even admiration for the guy. I still do. Seems like everyone has one or more flaws. I don't expect Obama to apologize. South Carolina let people die on their waiting list for AIDS medications. A lot of people dislike men who have sex with men - especially if they call themselves gay. We're talking about SC. Of course they will vote for Obama. The thing that makes me sick is he knows that and trashed both young and older gay men of color who get treated even worse than the typical Black person in this country. It's sad. By this time next year we will be in a deep depression and no one will even believe their vote for anyone will matter. I thought I would be dead before I saw America reach this point. I was wrong about that. We're all in really, really deep shit. A recession isn't likely to happen. It already has. Our Democracy is all but lost. BUt OPrah now has a new TeeVee station called OWN. Get it?

He was raised to be ashamed. Could not admit it enough to get tested for HIV. Got sick, called his sister, came to her and died of AIDS. He was my brother, died 5 years ago. I do not give a flying fuck what anyone says to me about Obama and his supposed friendliness to GLBT. THESE FUNDIES AND THEIR EX-GAY PREACHERS ARE KILLERS and if he does not know that then he is a fool.

26. It is so bad
so terribly bad to court these people. It is one thing to talk with them but to give them a stage to incite like minded people is another. People wonder why I write about this so much, well this is the answer. I have seen and you have seen and many of us have seen what happens when this is allowed to stand let alone encouraged.

I am sorry about your friend. It just simply sucks out loud.

to the ears of just the people he wanted to reach.

I am African American and Johnson has made his money on "Hip Hop" characters that have done any and everything.

He should be ashamed of the way that he behaved.

Further, Cuomo is not on Clinton's staff or an advisor - she can't fire him because she never hired him. Also, I wonder if you have read the full text of Cuomo comments.

JJ is Obama's National Co-Chairman.

These two incidents just don't equate in substance or status.

You're comparing what Bob Johnson said to what OBAMA said? No. You're comparing what Johnson said to what McClurkin said. Obama spoke out strongly against what McClurkin said. Hillary pretended Johnson was really talking about Obama's time as a community organizer. :eyes:

exactly!

I can't believe that HC didn't know what Johnson was going to say.

They are desperate and have no control over what happens in their camp.

She lives in a glass house and she should have enough "experience" to control those who speak out strongly on her behalf.
