"Kerry is also going beyond fundraising to boost Obama’s campaign. "

Obama gains access to big dollars through Kerry’s endorsement

Presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is taking advantage of Sen. John Kerry’s (D-Mass.) coveted e-mail list as he continues to campaign throughout the vital primary states.

<...>

The Massachusetts senator has been a record-breaking fundraiser for his party, raising about $33 million for candidates in the 2006 midterm elections. A third of that money came through the e-mail list, according to a former Kerry fundraiser.

Kerry is also going beyond fundraising to boost Obama’s campaign. He’s hitting the road to stump for Obama and talking his Senate colleague up with reporters.

“I think the worst endorsements are when someone supports you on paper alone,” Kerry said through a spokesman. “So I want to bring to bear every resource I’ve got and ask my friends to do the same, whether it’s our 3 million-person e-mail community that’s fought so hard to elect Democrats, or whatever I can do to spread the message by traveling for Barack, and just plain old-fashioned organizing.”

<...>

In addition, Kerry has become a public advocate for Obama as his campaign progresses by speaking out against a lawsuit that could have hampered turnout for the candidate in Nevada.

<...>

“All this time, Democrats have stood up for the rights of all people to cast their votes. We need to remain that kind of Party — voter suppression is wrong, all the time, anywhere,” wrote Kerry in a post on the liberal blog TPMCafe. “Open the caucus sites, and let people vote.”

1. Yeah, and Kerry lost me as a subscriber to his 'valuable email list"
because he is pimping for Obama.
John, why do you let your personal feelings for Edwards and the Clintons cloud your judgement.....

10. I am sure he knew that he would cause harm
to his relationship with many people on the email list, his fund-raising network and around the office. I am sure this pained him (no sarcasm) andI frankly think it makes the decision more courageous to me. Nonetheless, I support your decision 100%, though I am still subscribed. :-)

endorsed Obama, Hillary or Edwards. I think if this was another dem other than Kerry or had Kerry endorsed their candidate, people here would be lauding him like crazy, and there would not be a much snark as there has been the last couple of weeks.

JMHO.

17. I totally agree.
I am a kerry partisan, and because of that I have a certain emotional distance from the race. Quite liberating actually.

16. I am sure you are correct, and I still admire John Kerry for his years of service.
I just do not appreciate the emails I was getting.

for whatever silly reasons. I still think if this was someone other than Kerry, you wouldn't see all the vitriol swung back and forth here.

13. Same here! I was really disappointed!!!!
My friend and I both have responded to Kerry. My friend emailed him a letter. We both were soldiers for Kerry's campaign. He did not have permission to dump my in-box.

The slogan for '08 is:

21. How disrespectful
I didn't agree with Clark's endorsement of Clinton, but I respect his right to his own judgment. Can't you disagree without being obnoxious about it?

22. WTF are you talking about? I still respect Kerry a great deal - and I have NEVER bashed him
and urged everyone to be gracious about his endorsement. That being said, I do not wish to receive emails from Obama, and since I received 3 of them through Kerry's email list I canceled my subscription.

23. A Kerry staffer posted this last week - they are setting up to be able to keep Obama messages from
going to people who do not want them but want to get other messages that Kerry may send out. I thought you (or others) might want to see this because it has the address to get on that list. THANK God for DU's search function!

Though Obama is my favorite of the three, I really really would have prefered Kerry. Kerry with Teresa Heinz Kerry would have really been able to do so much to turn this country around. He has done a brilliant job advocating for Obama in an extremely positive way, without attacking the others. He always seems to manage to get in that all of the Democrats would take the country in the right direction.

8. I always enjoyed receiving his emails
but he let HIS politics cloud HIS judgment.
It's a shame because by the time it's over...that email list will be pared in half--and leaving only the Obama echo chamber and render it virtually worthless.

25. So, it's not possible that he likes Obama
and thinks he's the best choice for President? You're questioning his judgment based what? Your own? I'll bet you really believe he's entitled to make up his own mind about who to support just like the rest of us.
Or are you suggesting he doesn't have that right?

27. He doesn't have the RIGHT to give my name and email address to Obama
I gave it to Kerry...not to that Demagogue. Because he did that, I have EVERY right to voice my opinion about it.

28. Actually, kerry's campaign does not give the lists
They send out the emails themselves on behalf of other candidates.

The DNC, on the other hand, will give it to the DSCC, DCCC, et in a heart beat (and vice versa)

you will never see anyone here bitter at other Dems that endorse Obama or any other Dems that endorsed Hillary or Edwards. Just only Kerry. Weird indeed.

I asked to have my name removed from his calling group but yet they just called again asking for money for Obama. I will never give money to a group or person who refuses to stop contacting me.
