Bob Johnson is all over the news today and the clip is played again and again.
This is what happens when a novice politician fails to end a controversy that needs to be ended before it does even more harm.

Obama's supporters have been out demanding an apology and attacking Clinton for saying in the debate that Johnson had apologized for the comments, calling that a "lie." Obama failed to signal that they needed to bury this issue.

In response to the post debate attacks, the apology came, along with replays of the clips and interviews with Johnson where he, a black man, goes on for 15 minutes about Clinton's more and better experience.

2. Yes I've seen it,
and they're very lucky that Clinton hasn't demanded a public apology from Jesse Jackson Jr. I doubt they'd want his video played again either.

5. I will never ever support Jesse Jackson Jr. for anything.
That had to be one of the moronic comments ever made.
Truly disgusting.

4. The clip shows a pattern by the Clinton camp of smearing Obama then apologizing.
This is NOT going to help Hillary.

8. So now "the Clinton camp" controls the MSM, eh?
The OP of this piece is correct. The media latchs on to hits against Democrats like a dog to a bone and spits them out only when they are ready to.

If there had been no apology made people like you would have railed on for the next week over why Clinton didn't do something to force her surragate to apologize. Now the media covers that apology, which of coure is predictable because they cover ANYTHING that implies discord between Democrats, and predictably you blame Hillary for that.

9. You must've misunderstood the OP. It says the apology being played over and over will HELP Hillary.
Read it again and get back to me.

12. I know that
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 08:23 PM by Tom Rinaldo
But the OP pointed out that the Obama campaign should have forseen that the bigger deal that the Obama campaign made over the need for an apology, the bigger deal the media would make of that apology when it came. It was predictable and they could have forseen how it would help Clinton playing out the way it has.

Obama's campaign has focused on winning over Blacks in South Carolina from Clinton. They thought the Johnson comments could be spun in a way to help them toward that end.

13. But it's NOT a fact that it's helping Hillary. It's simply the OP's opinion and I strongly disagree
with that. And when did Obama or his campaign say they needed an apology from Johnson? Got a link? A quote? Johnson brought this on himself and his denial that he was talking about drugs has now been shown to be a lie. And Hillary accepted that lie. Obama never demanded an apology. But this is hurting Hillary if you ask me-not helping. The media is pointing out the inconsistencies of both Johnson and Hillary in their prior denials that it was about his drug use.

14. It is hurting all of us I believe is the bottom line
And I admit to getting sloppy and falling into the "camp" syndrome in which the candidates and their supporters all get lumped together as a single beast - often unfairly. Some Obama supporters were calling for an apology, but that is not the same thing as Obama calling for one.

With Hilary's comment at the debate that the comments were wrong, she is not now directly hurt by the apology. They each risk losing some support over the dust up that happened, for different reasons.

15. So you DON'T agree with the OP.
Good.

p.s. Hillary said TWO things at the debate. She first said she accepted Johnson's explanation (which was that he was talking about Obama's community organization) and then when Russert asked if she thought he was wrong to say what he said, she said yes. Typical Clinton.

p.p.s. I haven't seen ANY Obama supporters (outside of the DU) pressing for an apology.

7. Bob Johnson is an arrogant BILLIONAIRE who has a platform at his every whim.
I wish he'd take his filthy rich entitlement attitude and ... well, just go away Bob Johnson, you shameless Hill Shill.

With a few "very notable" exceptions, I despise the filthy rich. They get more attention (they have MORE than one vote) by our politicians.

MONEY TALKS! :nuke:
