23. Why does that remind me...
... of the jokes about the "Run Hillary Run" bumperstickers put on the front bumper of Republicans' cars....

*grin* I'm feeling cheeky today, sorry...

At least the ACLU shows one thing -- ANY of the Democrats we have the pleasure of choosing from can do a heckuva lot better than the Republicans!

13. What part of the Constitution don't they like?
The ACLU was founded to defend the First Amendment (and others) where they saw it was being violated. This is what they do, and rather consistently; they will defend the KKK's right to peaceful assembly, for example, even though they know if the Klan ever got into power, the ACLU would be the first to be shut down.

24. That's not what the ACLU was about
and, as I said, they are consistent in defending freedoms, even if the acts they are defending are repugnant to others. They've also defended the pornography industry and atheists, groups that aren't always liked by the general public. But the question you have to ask is this: what part of the Constitution are you willing to give up so that these people you don't like are curtailed? Freedom of speech? Freedom of assembly? Right to privacy?

30. Think, Perry. If he has an 82% vote rating, it obviously isn't based on five votes.
The smallest number that you can get to yield an 82% is 11.

For example, prior to 2003, Kucinich's NARAL rating had never been above 25% in his previous six years in Congress

32. Yes, I use that all the time. But it still doesn't give "lifetime scorecards" by candidate by group
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 12:09 PM by PeaceNikki
It gives each rating each year by candidate, but not the cumulative lifetime rating as was given the OP.

29. He's moved left in his four years out of the Senate.
When he was a senator from 2001-2004, the Senate was mostly rubberstamping the Patriot Act and other Bush lunacies. By the time the Dems began finally showing some backbone, Edwards was already out of Congress.

The only 2 votes that weren't in alignment with ACLU were: Campaign finance reform (that he co-sponsered) and a vote for ban on raves.

37. Voted to ban raves???
THAT might peeve off some younger voters...

Myself, I can't go into one of those things -- my migraines are triggered by flashing lights. (Better than seizures, I guess...) The "rave" scene in my state has their own online forum with a politics section. They've also done voter registration drives at all the parties this year.
