DU is tripping again...

For all of you people angry at Obama for discussing Reagan, you need to take a lude.

All he is saying is that Reagan ushered in change. PERIOD.

Maybe you don't like the fact that he doesn't condemn Reagan, or maybe you don't like the fact that he's dicussing Reagan at all.

Guess what?

TOO BAD.

Obama lives in the real world and doesn't follow the puritanical code of PC that is sometimes prevalent on DU. He talks about real world things. Reagan was popular with a lot of people. Get over it.

And for the record I hate Reagan.

3. Yeah
Apparently people don't like to hear honesty just political SPIN. I thought ppl were liberals on here and wanted something different but it seems like many want more of the same.

2. He also combined his statement about Reagan changing
the country with a real slam to those of us who had been working for positive change all through the 60s and 70s.

I guess you didn't bother reading that part.

15. That story was written by a very intelligent man and it WAS NOT about pods!
It was about how we are our own worst enemies. A similar theme was explored in Carpenter's "It".

Please, Use it. Good luck and god bless. This place is fucked to the rafters.

17. We do it to ourselves everytime.
It is an apt visual metaphor, the best I've seen here for a long while. I won't use it unless I'm utterly compelled, since overuse will diminish its effectiveness. "fucked to the rafters", yep, that we be.

6. He said more than that
He said when Reagan ran for President the country needed a change from government that was too big and a country that suffered from the excesses of the 60's era.

Where does a guy who admits doing drugs get off complaining about the "excesses of the 60's"?

His message was that the changes Reagan wanted were changes the country needed at that time. Sorry, BS.

7. He said the repukes were the party of ideas - 'splain that.
His easily percieved praising of raygun fits right in with his "no difference between me and bush" on Iraq statement.

I won't join in or pretend yet again he didn't really mean what it sounded like he said (while some poeple twist Hillary's words to mean things she clearly didn't mean).

Obama has put his eager supporters in a very hard position, arguing the talents of raygun as good for the Democratic party.

btw, I wish I could find a lude or two

16. Obama should hate him too. Reagan did SO MUCH DAMAGE to the U.S.! But in all fairness....
The Clintons have been high-fiving so many Repukes it's hard to count. Before the primaries got started, Bill Clinton was doing speaking engagements with Bush Sr. It made me sick to my stomach.

club. They have been working together fund-raising for less fortunate people. Clinton's nature is that of a 'people person'. He likes people.

19. Reagan offered Americans a sense of common purpose that liberals seemed no longer able to muster."

his book, p 32

also

Pages 156-57

"The conservative revolution Reagan helped usher in gained traction because Reagan's central insight--that the liberal welfare state had grown complacent and overly bureaucratic, with Democratic policy makers more obsessed with slicing the economic pie than with growing he pie--contained a good deal of truth."

20. you just tripped,... and fell. sorry but i was building food banks and homeless shelters in WA as
a VISTA Volunteer, we had 36,000 families in 2 counties, who couldn't feed their children or put a roof over their heads in the snow.

i think the difference of opinion might be ones socioeconomic status at the time... many non metropolitan areas got plowed under and lift for dead.... a lot of people profited uner him.. and wont say ill of him, it is a matter of perspective.

30. "I hate reagan"
Check one that clarifies the degree and nature of the hatred:

< > I'm ok with the changes that he made.
< > I'm not ok with the changes that he made.
< > I'm a blind supporter partisan with no critical thinking ability or historical context regarding Reagan.

Without the faux outrage what fun would it be? All facts and no Faux makes the primaries a dull show.
