Life Is Good... So Stop Complaining, Damn It!
There is nothing to worry about, Gloomy Guses: No need to concern yourselves with Fleischer and Rove or even the Republican wingnut candidates; Don't even worry about Michigan's open primary shenanigans or the lies about how much better the economy is under Republicans; Forget Limbaugh's comedy routines; Ignore Ann Coulter's skank ratio; and don't let Super Tuesday's delegate count bother your beautiful mind. And whatever you do, don't pay any attention to what bloggers and DUers have to say. However...

If you skipped the blogs this week, here's what you missed: Karl Rove and Ari Fleischer are back, and they're acting like... well, themselves; Daily Kos might've won the Michigan Primary; Limbaugh presents his new spaaaade and ho(e)down; The Skank Queen gets out-Skanked; and, the Feb. 5th Super Tuesday map is an eye-opener... Holy Delegate Count, Batman! All this and much more. Plus, DUers lame54, Hepburn, Horse With No Name, and Vickiss rock your world! Enjoy.

By The BushCo Numbers

This week's Math class story problem comes from http://righthandthief.blogspot.com/2008/01/wheres-your-money.html">Your Right Hand Thief:

Where's your money?

The Dow has barely kept pace with inflation during Bush's term.

The S&P has barely kept up with cash (3 month T-bills).

Yet, a recent WSJ article states: "59% of the (59 economists the WSJ surveyed) said the stock market performs better under Republican presidents, compared with 28% who said it favored Democrats."

This persistent myth of stocks doing better under GOP Presidents must be challenged at every opportunity, because it's not even close to being true. No matter how you slice and dice the numbers since 1901, Democrats come out on top. And yet economists like to think that their discipline is data-driven.

Well, did you guess why the BushCo economy "looks" so good? Of course, you did. The Wall Street Journal loves it some Gee Dubya Bush*t, doesn't it?

A Tribute To Wingnut Candidates

Jonestown's on a roll this week, with these great Gimme* caps (*explanation: "Gimme one uh them caps") for Republican wingnut candidates:

The pics are funny, and the commentary is even funnier.

Let's Talk About Race

Not "the" race. Just race. Actually, it's a way better topic when Chris Rock talks about it. Here's an oldie but goody, posted by List Of The Day this week.

Now, lets talk about The Race. ElectoPundit has posted a YouTube video from last year, which seems brand new... except for the Rudy 911ani ending:

Do these two Clinton/Obama supporters look (or sound) vaguely familiar? At least, there's a truce this week in honor of Martin Luther King. As for Rudy 911ani, Dependable Renegade reports that...

Rudy's sewn up the undead vote.

"All you zombies get off my lawn!"

Oooh. I'm so scared.

This Is Not The American Terrorist You're Looking For

Did you catch this virtual front page at The Huffington Post this week?

Big news in BushCo's war on terror, right? Wall-to-wall coverage, right? Tailor made for FOX salivating, right? Wrong.

Ellen at News Hounds notes with a heavy sigh how Hannity and Colmes completely ignored the 42-count indictment of former Congressman Mark Deli Siljander, even though FOX presented one of their McCarthyesque "There are radical Islamists infiltrating our government" showcases a few short days ago. Can you guess why FOX ignored this major story?

Could the "real journalism, fair and balanced" network's decision have anything to do with the fact that Siljander is a Republican? Nah, of course not! That same spirit of fairness and balance was also evident in the "Campaign Alert" that the viewers did see (with swoosh and all) in which "Karl Rove reveals strategy for beating Obama and Clinton."

That's right. KKKarl Rove is back, and FOX News's Got Him! Now, isn't that more important than wasting time on a Republican's 42-count indictment on terror-related charges? Don't you trust FOX? Hey! Rove isn't the only sleaze bucket crawling out of the shadows this week...

Ari Fleischer Lies; Ari Fleischer Eats Crow

Well, that's what happened. How else would you describe Fleischer's latest appearance on Larry King Live, where he insisted that Romney accidentally forgot to include George W. in his list of great Republican presidents... then confirmed during his next appearance that Romney omitted George W. on purpose? Atrios writes:

Mistake

Ari seemed to be pretty pissed when he said this.

L. KING: Ari, do you count it interesting that Mr. Romney mentioned Ronald Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush, but not George W. Bush?

FLEISCHER: Well, I couldn't help but wonder if that was just a mistake. I'm really not sure that it's -- when you have an incumbent president who is popular in the Republican base of the party, you mention this predecessor, obviously, Ronald Reagan. And I think that was probably a mistake. He meant George W.

And here's the follow-up.

L. KING: And Ari, you're saying John is right?

FLEISCHER: Yes, John -- Larry, since we've -- on the last show you had, you asked me why Mitt Romney said George H.W. Bush, not George W. Bush. I said I thought it was a mistake. I got in touched of one of Romney's top aides and he told me it was not a mistake. It's not a slight to George W. But when Mitt Romney cites Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

L. KING: So he has done that before then?

FLEISCHER: That's correct. That's what the Romney people have told me. He meant to say it and he said it the way he wanted to say it. It was not a mistake.

Poor Ari doesn't realize that the boy king will remain one of the most unpopular figures in America...forever.

I have to disagree with the "poor Ari" part. Fleischer is no Brutus, and George W. is certainly no Cassius. No sympathy. For Ari. Ever.

Thank Kos! Mitt Wins Michigan!

What do you get when no Dem delegates are currently in play, the primary is an "open" one (trans. no party registration required), and you want to mess with Republicans? If you're like Markos Moulitsas Zuniga (Daily Kos), you urge your readers to vote for the Mormons' favorite son, Mitt Romney. Wired.com has the details, along with this great graphic:

Hm. Mitt actually won in Michigan. Maybe Kos has more power than anyone ever imagined. Or maybe not. Who knows? The Michigan results are unverifiable at this point; however, Undeniable Liberal (at WTF Is It Now?) admits to following Kos's advice:

Acting on orders given by the great Orange Satan, I voted for Romney. I feel just terrible about it. ;-)~

The Results:

Republicans

Mitt's Presidential Shoulders and Reagan-esque Hair-39
Mr Maverick-----------------------------------------30
Jesus' Guy--------------------------------------------16
Paultard---------------------------------------------- 6
Aqua Velva Grampa/Daddy---------------------------4
America's 9-11 Mayor---------------------------------3
None of the Above-------------------------------------2

By the way, Kos is known as "the great Orange Satan." Speaking of name calling...

Limbaugh, The Spade, And The Ho(e)

Crooks and Liars has the transcript and the audio of Rush "Oxy/Viagra Boy" Limbaugh's newest so-called parody of Barack Obama. Listen carefully as Rush says, "spaaaaaaaaaaade," then pauses for emphasis. Parody, my ass. "Barack The Magic Negro" was just the beginning.

Life Is Good! (As Long As You Don't Think About It)

DCup, posting at http://fairlane.wordpress.com/2008/01/16/where-i-consider-putting-my-head-in-the-oven-only-to-discover-its-electric-and-i-forgot-to-pay-my-electric-bill/">Jonestown, describes life in the BushCo era to a T, in a post called, "Where I Consider Putting My Head in the Oven Only to Discover It's Electric and I Forgot to Pay My Electric Bill." Here's a snippet:

Lately, it seems that my life with MathMan has tracked right along with our national woes. We were in an adjustable rate mortgage mess. We got into a refinance to solve that problem. The mortgage broker who worked the deal did a classic bait and switch. He promised us the moon regarding cash out to pay off credit cards, a dandy of a lowered interest rate and a fab appraisal on our house.

After getting too far down the road to stop on an already spent dime (read: cash spent on an appraisal and the clock ticking on the ARM being ratcheted up), we got to the attorney's office to sign paper work with an obscene interest rate (though not an ARM, a 30 year fixed), no escrow (read: We had to come up with our property taxes on December 15 in one $900 lump - doesn't sound like much for property taxes? well, perhaps not, but I don't have $900 lying around), only one quarter of the cash out that we were promised on what would have likely been an inflated appraisal (no, thanks) and a higher monthly payment than we were leaving behind.

Ta Da! Since then, our checking account has been the financial equivalent of an Anacin headache. It's one of those low-grade groaners that isn't quite a migraine, not just a dull throb.

Now we just need to start watching American Idol, purchase Viagra and lose weight using Nutri-System and we'll be just like average Americans. Well, except we're not living on our maxed out credit cards because we've closed all those motherfucking accounts. Now we're living paycheck to paycheck and on the float and life is just one long held breath.

Sound familiar?

Think Pink: What Feb. 5th Looks Like

From Bartcop (Thurs-Friday, Jan 10-11, 2008, Vol 2096 - The Sharing Stick):

How big is Feb 5th Super Tuesday?

That's when the pink states vote.

DUH Question: Does Chris Matthews Have A Problem With Women?

According to Your Right Hand Thief, the answer is simple: Uh, yeah. Enough said.

Out-Skanking The Skank Queen

Warning! Rude Pundit-level graphic language ahead! The sensitive among us should immediately move their cursors to the far left of this text and scroll down to the word, "Whew!" For those familiar with the rude one's... um, style, we now continue.

No one has ever out-skanked the Skank Queen (aka Ann Coulter) quite like The Rude Pundit. This time, the rude one even out-skanks his skankiest anti-Coulter rant. If you thought this was an impossible task, consider the last paragraph of Rude's rant on Coulter's editorial obit for her late father:

Oh, tender eyes and ears, is this a bit cruel, to beat up on Ann Coulter when her father kicked less than a week ago? Then you didn't read Coulter's column to the last line, where she says, "Now Daddy is with Joe McCarthy and Ronald Reagan. I hope they stop laughing about the Reds long enough to talk to God about smiting some liberals for me." Tee-hee, it's a joke, innit? How Coulter wishes us all dead? The kind of thing that'd probably make the old man laugh. Fuck her and her brute of a father. He's in hell now, alongside Reagan and McCarthy, getting raped by barbed-dick demons with his daughter's face. Kind of like the rest of us.

Whew! That was harsh.

Imagine what a joy it must be to get paid to edit Coulter's crap.

Thank A DUer!

Thanks to lame54 for posting a link to his outstanding YouTube video tribute to Democraticunderground.com.

Great job, lame!

Thanks to Hepburn for posting this toon:

And thanks to Horse With No Name http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=2702533&mesg_id=2702533">for posting this prescient poll:

Poll question: Do you ever wish you could just sit back and not care what is happening in this country?

Do you wish you didn't know what you know?

I am wondering how many think now that ignorance might be bliss and would at least give you some restful nights.

Thanks, DUers.

I planned to conclude this week's column with some pretty high and mighty platitudes, namely how important remaining ever vigilant is to our universal wellbeing, yada yada yada. Then, I read DUer Vickiss' reply to Horse With No Name's poll question, and I realized how simple the answer is: "We witness for those without voices." Would life, indeed, be good if we could ignore the daily barrage of wingnut corruption, stealth vote stealing, and Pure D hatred of 75% of the American public?

Ignorance may be bliss, but I've never known a truly happy ignorant person. Have you?
