Obama targets Nevada Republicans, independents
Democrat Barack Obama (tailing Hillary Clinton in two Nevada polls) is running two radio ads in Nevada aimed specifically at winning support from Republicans and independents, My Silver State blog reports.

There's been a lot of focus on high-profile angling by Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards for union and Hispanic voters. The Obama ads target a different group and take advantage of Nevada's caucus rules. As in Iowa, anyone can register as a Democrat on the way in to the caucus.

You can hear audio of the ads at My Silver State. "You can register right at the caucus," a narrator says. "Independents and Republicans who want real change can attend and switch reigstration."

Both ads feature excerpts from Obama rally speeches, neither say he's a Democrat, and one says he's got the best shot to win in November.

2. Good.
We need them all.

Bless Obama for doing what is required for voter turn out to vote for a "D".

I pray whomever wins the Nomination will be as smart. I have always said that most who vote Republican vote against their best interest....and many here and elsewhere wondered why they would be so foolish. Maybe asking for their vote, As Wes Clark also promoted during his own '04 campaign, it is something that hasn't been done enough, obviously.

7. No; got to get a majority to be able to affect change......
but I guess you didn't know that's how it works in a democracy; majority rules.

6. How dare he? That's smart strategy and all...
But Independents and Republicans are unclean people unworthy to caucus with Democrats, the chosen people.

We don't need their stinking votes, not now and not in the general election!

9. More inclusiveness from Obama?
God forbid! lord knows hillary wants to strike as many from the voting records as she can. Good to see at least one of our candidates trying to draw all people in instead of just their people. Its about damn time!

11. People who vote in a dem/repub primary are very likely to vote that way in the general election
Studies show that if you vote in a democratic primary you're very likely to vote for the democrat in the general election, even if you're an independent, and even if your candidate didn't win in the primary. Same with voting in a republican primary. What Obama is doing is smart, and showing why he's the best candidate for us in a general election.

The best part about Obama's crossover appeal is that he's more liberal then Hillary, yet nondemocrats love him a lot more then moderate Hillary.
