Really ... the more you endorse, the more you send the message that your candidate represents business as usual. I don't care how populist you are because in the eyes of most citizens who don't pay attention, you're blended into the mass of so-called elected officials who have even lower favorability ratings than the president.
Oh, and one more thing, are you so disconnected and arrogant to think that your endorsement means something? I would pay infinitely more attention to the endorsement of the lady who takes the trash out of my office every evening at work because she's the one who will be most impacted by the outcome of the next presidential election. Her quality of life, and that of her family, means so much more to me than the significance of your endorsement, made from your comfy position at Capital Hilll and the fancy cocktail parties you attend, thrown by leeches, I mean lobbyists, courting you for legislative favors.
If you really respect the people you work for, you should keep your mouth shut about endorsements till the primaries are over! If you want to be helpful, assist your constituents in making up their own minds by providing resources, like those from the League of Women Voters. Encourage them to really think, for themselves, about the issues that affect them, and to match those up with the candidate that best represents their interests.
Your endorsement, on the other hand, serves only two purposes: 1) you're turning off people who are mad at Congress, making them less likely to vote for your candidate. 2) you're spoon-feeding your candidate to people who are too intellectually lazy to think for themselves.
After a nominee has been selected, by all means, support our party's candidate. Until then, with regard to endorsements, please just shut up!
