Olbermann Admits Mistake - Will Appoligize tonight
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 05:11 PM by Phred42
KO is going to Apologize Tonight

I have to admit that KO had me very worried last night. He had that DLC stooge O'Donnell on Dismissing Edwards at every chance.
I am happy to say that I believe KO and I will be watching tonight.

Keith Olbermann Does The Impossible: Admits He Was Wrong
January 18, 2008 -- 4:02 PM EST // link //
Keith Olbermann made a big boo-boo on MSNCB last night. When he learned of it, he had a deeply bizarre, almost-unheard-of reaction:

He admitted he was wrong and apologized.

One thing this blog can't fathom is why this is such a rare occurrence among your top media stars. When Joe Klein made a hash of things with a piece on FISA, he dragged his feet about it for weeks. When The Washington Post took a big hit for front-paging the scurrilous Obama Muslim smears without declaring them false, the paper's editors dug in.

1. O'Donnell shouldn't even be on TV again after that trash he wrote.

2. Olbermann has apologized before and named himself Worst Person in The World
I forget exactly what the situation was, though.

4. Last Appology was for a minor offence
Last time he gave himself Worst for not giving a shout out I think.

This is much more important - MAybe he'll give himself Worstest

5. Olberman's well on his way to making himself
the most trusted name in news commentary. Any journalist with integrity always used to print a retraction when later information came to light that proved a story wrong. It was the way they kept their jobs before corporate media consolidation.

Integrity seems to be the one thing J-schools refuse to teach today. After all, integrity is messy and is the last quality a corporation wants.

6. It was something to do with sports coverage. I didn't get the
feeling that he or the situation was very serious. But, with regard to the McDonald apology, that was a high class move. I was upset last night just as soon as I heard that McD was going to be on.

10. He mixed up Jonah Goldberg and Johnathon Goldberg and apologized for that.

But I mainly remember a regular retraction, not a Worst Person for that one.

edited for spelling

11. The time he made himself "Worst Person" was for making an insensitive joke about someone, I think.
Probably during that stupid "Keeping Tabs" section that his celebutard-obsessed corporate masters make him do.

13. After the London bombings, when all the press were jumping at
the "news" fragments they were being given with more credulity than skepticism (remember the innocent guy that got shot down because the cops thought he was a terrorist?), KO gave the media at large a WPITW for their rush to judgement and he included himself in that condemnation.

18. He has.
It's a habit with him to apologize when his show gets something wrong or when he feels a line has been crossed.

I didn't know why he didn't contradict O'Donnell last night, other than that he has a tendency to actually allow his guests to TALK rather than shouting over them and cutting off their mic like Billo. This time, though, he appears to have let someone talk who should not have.

16. LOL, I started to type a post hours ago about how O'Donnell needs
to plug back into reality. This isn't West Wing and he doesn't get to write our lines.
