AP: Obama's paise of Reagan could effect union vote
John Edwards and Hillary Rodham Clinton criticized Barack Obama's praise of the Republican Party and Ronald Reagan—an anathema for many Democrats, particularly union members considered crucial to winning Nevada's Democratic caucuses Saturday.

Obama responded by suggesting Clinton would be a "president whose plans change with the politics of the moment"—one of his most direct critiques of the New York senator yet.

The intensity reflects what polls suggest could be a tight contest Saturday as Nevada plays its most prominent role ever in a presidential nominating campaign. Nevada was granted a coveted spot right after Iowa and New Hampshire in an attempt to bring more racial and geographic diversity into the selection.

Edwards questioned Obama's commitment to labor in his final appeal to Nevada voters—a rally with about 100 of his precinct captains in Las Vegas.

"Ronald Reagan, the man who busted unions, the man who did everything in his power to destroy the organized labor movement, the man who created a tax structure that favored the richest Americans against middle class and working families, ... we know that Ronald Reagan is not an example of change for a presidential candidate running in the Democratic Party," Edwards said.

Guess that was posted on her website at a pretty dumb time, too? So, I guess they've only got Edwards now.

5. You'd better send your little link to the NV unions....

Edwards has thrown down quite plainly, in terms that union members understand.

3. Hmmm. Edwards wasted no time drawing the contrast, did he?
I know a couple of Air Traffic Controllers who got a royal fucking courtesy of Saint Ronnie. They haven't forgotten it, either.

6. Its a pity, but in the "real world" outside of the blogosphere and the hype on DU, these things
really don't matter. No one loses sleep over this besides people on DU, evidently.

Talking to people v reading posts by partisans = two entirely different things.

11. I guess that means they'll be pressuring the rank and file to vote differently? Over a remark that
has been taken completely out of context and distorted by HRC supporters and John Edwards? Wow. That would be..something indeed.

21. Trent Lott apologists performed a similar tap dance after his remarks about Strom Thurmond.
Your soft shoe rendition is a bit smoother but it can't erase what Obama actually said.

BTW Hillary leads Obama by five points in Nevada.

25. You're one sick puppy.. but enjoy your racist hate fest here. BTW, I'm for Edwards.. so it doesn't
make a crap to me how much Hillary is ahead in Nevada. One doesn't have to be voting for Obama to defend him against this irrational crap. That you want to label people of reason with a Strom Thurmond slur is reminiscent of your "Gal".. very typical of the despicable campaign Hill and her supporters are running. Enjoy.

Unions never were comfortable with Obama. You didn't see unions jump on his bandwagon until after Iowa.

I was an ill-advised statement custom made to anger people who REALLY SUFFERED because of RAYGUN"S Reign of Terror.
So was it said antagonize Edwards Democrats, who according to some are the only one's who still hate Raygun?
Or was is a Rookie mistake?
Either way ---POOR LEADERSHIP.

24. you guys are scared shitless of that Culinary Union, aren't you?
You're throwing everything possible at Obama in an attempt to turn Union members against him

first with the false claims of Union voter intimidation

now intentionally misrepresenting what Obama said about Reagan to try and confuse voters

These are shady tactics.

I think People are smarter than you give them credit for.

and condemnation. They also know that the GOP has never been on their side.

26. K&R-- Reagan was the complete opposite of Democrat FDR
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 11:40 PM by DianaForRussFeingold
FDR in the 1930's is the ideal and what we really NEED...
He pulled this country together when we were in total economic collapse.
With his 'New deal' he put America back to work building our infrastructure,
pulled us out of the Great depression and made us proud for all we accomplished
thanks to his leadership-- To me he was the greatest president..

Obama said he would have Republicans in his administration?
How in the world will they change anything?

If Edwards is the next President of the United States.
He will take on out of control Corporations,
as did FDR.

Sadly, they want Edwards to disappear ...It's sickening!
John Edwards is not buy-able but he IS viable!
If Edwards gets his message out --
we'd see a landslide victory in November!
:dem:"It is time for the president of the United States to ask Americans
to be Patriotic about something other than war" John Edwards-

'Edwards is FDR with a Southern Accent'
"Edwards is the most labor-friendly Presidential candidate of the top-tier candidates.
With Edwards, we have a candidate who both walks the walk and talks the talk. Edwards is
strongly opposed to outsourcing American jobs and is committed to ending unfair
international trade deals or tax policies that encourage corporations to move jobs
out of the nation."
