Damage Control: Clarification of the Clinton campaign release citing admiration for Reagan
In fact, Senator Clinton only complimented President Reagan’s communications skills – an attribute of his that has been widely praised by Americans of all ideological stripes – and did not list him as one of her favorite presidents. She also noted that she respected George H.W. Bush.

David Cutler, the co-owner of Salmon Press Newspapers, released the following statement:

The question posed was originally what portraits would you hang in the White House if you were President and as the dialogue progressed, who are the presidents you admire most?

She (Sen. Clinton) listed several presidents that she admired and mentioned she liked Reagan’s communication skills. She did not say Reagan was her favorite President. She didn’t say anything close to that.

Take ownership of that comment: She liked Reagan's communications skills, but so do a lot of people.

4. But unlike Obama she never said he won because of the failure of liberalism
Ironically the real reason Reagan won was because of the use of actual racism.

11. Failure of liberalism to make its case
Two very different beasts.

Obama said that the Reagan Republicans were the "party of ideas"--bad ideas, but they went against "conventional wisdom" at the time. He represented change, and the people wanted it, because the liberals at the time hadn't worked hard enough to make their case. They were out-communicated.

He's using it as an example of why we need to reach out and bring people in, not simply power our way to a Presidency and a filibuster-proof majority and effectively seize control of the government for a term. That will lead to short-term change, perhaps, but not lasting change.

7. Sure, OK. If it makes her feel better. Funny that no one on her staff
seemed to mind that he was listed as one of her favorites in an editorial, in the context of putting Republicans in her cabinet. One would think that "mistake" would have been swiftly corrected, if not true.

10. Not quite accurate
It's this release that editorializes the important word "only."

"In fact, Senator Clinton only complimented President Reagan’s communications skills – an attribute of his that has been widely praised by Americans of all ideological stripes – and did not list him as one of her favorite presidents."

The comment from David Cutler in fact says that they got into a discussion about "presidents you admire most" and "several presidents that she admired"--at some point, somehow Reagan came up--and then she said that she liked Reagan's communication skills. Not "only" his communication skills.

Why is the distinction important?

Because the quote from Mr. Cutler suggests that Clinton did include Reagan in a list of "several presidents that she admired" even if the words used were not "favorite presidents."

Again, I don't give a crap what Clinton or Obama said about Reagan, because neither of them idolize the man. They recognize the qualities that made him a formidable opponent. But I'm violently allergic to hypocrisy.

12. hmmm
Didn't Reagan's great communication skills help him greatly in all the horrible things he did to this country?

So does that mean Hillary admires Reagan for using his communication skills to do bad things.

I guess that's what I have to believe.
