This could be our last night to enjoy the Fred Thompson campaign.

Fred may only be with us as a candidate for another few hours... Several friends have gathered here at the house... We're openly weeping...

5. Hi, Yael. It could be curtains for the Thompson effort after South Carolina.
He'll have to go back to Hollywood and burn up the silver screen with his incomparable virtuosity as an actor.

11. True -- if Fred could somehow win in SC, it would plunge the GOP into
further chaos and discord -- both happy outcomes from our angle.

a Ron Paul victory in libertarian-leaning Nevada and the Rudster in Florida and we have a total tossup on 2/5. Republicans don't like uncertainty. To quote Bill Maher -- they prefer to pick a Furher and march step behind him. The longer they are in disarray, the better, imo. Go Phred!!!!! :D

13. It's bordering on evil on my part, Yael, but I'd like to see the Republicans
turn on each other like rabid animals in the next month and a half or so. Your scenario of multiple winners would help that process along. I'd like to see the whole worthless lot of 'em drag their sorry butts into Minneapolis next fall bruised and bleeding and belly-aching.

8. Hi, Bonobo. I'll admit this is a thread likely to infuriate Fred Thompson
supporters, but I'm hoping there are damn few of 'em on DU, knock on wood. (sound of three knocks...) Whoops! That isn't wood. That's the corpse of Fred Thompson!

21. One of the funniest posts I have ever read on DU
was one which said the poster was ecstatic to hear Fred was going to run for POTUS. He said Law and Order was his favorite television show, and he knew when Fred announced he would exit that show Stage Left. And yes, this is a cool thread .... Sam PS How exactly does one identify the corpse of Fred Thompson from the live guy when there probably are no visible discernible differences perceivable by the naked eye?

24. Good question. This may require an ecumenical team of top people from
the nation's morgues to make a determination. They'll be able to get to the bottom of the mystery as soon as the Carbon 14 after-shave results get back.

18. O my god I forgot about Tweety. He's been on a strange little tangent of
late, hasn't he? I like Jim Lehrer on PBS' THE NEWS HOUR. Sensible, thorough, steady, quiet.

20. Hi, Samantha. LOL! Yes -- ol' Fred invokes the by-gone days of that
esteemed product. But alas, his gleaming coach is about to revert to its former status as a pumpkin. Thank god he didn't live long enough to read the headlines out of South Carolina tomorrow...

26. LOL! Fred may have been one of those people who became too old the day they
hit 25 or 30. His actual birth-given first name was 'Freddie.' I get the idea that he's spent most of his adult life trying to become sage and all-seeing, moving toward sour 'Fred' and far away from playfrul 'Freddie.' I think it was the right direction but he went way too far of the mark. He's awfully dull, even at his very best. And I think this is the end of the road for the Thompson campaign.
