It is a bit amazing how one county (Clark) can have such
a far reaching effect in determining America's future direction. Much has already been written about small states like Iowa and New Hampshire have too much influence but today we saw one county determine the winner and the (probably) now unstoppable front-runner.

Not being snarky. Congrats to the Clinton organization and the Democratic party establishment. Impressive performance.

But it all came down to one county since the rest of the state went for Obama (total vote, not county-by-county)

Strange stuff when you think about it.

2. How about Barack's own Cook county? It elected JFK.

Nevada is similar to Illinois... flat and empty with a gigantic population center on one end.

3. Well, not when you realize that Las Vegas is probably the most lopsided state in the country...
...at least in terms of demographics.

Clark County, which is basically the Las Vegas Metro Area, contains about 70% of the state's population.

4. Yes, but you have to recognize something. The State of NV.
only has something like 2,300,000 people and 2,000,00 of them are in Clark County! I heard this on CNN earlier today and I admit, I was quite surprised by that. My guess is that 90% of the rest of the population is in Reno, the remaining very few people are very scattered out and most likely didn't bother to caucus at all!

5. 2006 census estimates
Nevada 2,495,529

Clark County 1,777,539

Clark County is about 70% of Nevada's population.

6. Clark has about 70% of the population, so, yes, it is quite
lopsided. I've been watching NV trying to turn blue for the last few election cycles but even though Clark votes blue the rest of the state votes GOP by a large enough margin to offset Clark. I am hoping this year we finally get over the hump on that in the GE.

7. That's like the GOP's map of the country with all the blue and red counties
with the country being probably 90% red and the concentrated blue counties in small areas.

Fact is, the votes are where the people are. I'd rather Clark County, NV determine something than Gold Digger's Gulch, NV.

8. No different then if we had a national primary
Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Huston would determine the outcome of the election.
