Congratulations to both the Obama and Clinton campaigns for their successes in Nevada. Both are winners. There are so many other delegates at stake and so many other states yet to vote, that I don't think it makes much sense to debate the Nevada delegate issue here.
I am disappointed that Edwards didn't have a better showing but I am instead going to take some pleasure in the state of disarray of the Republicans at this point and how far away their ridiculous candidates are from the views of most Americans. We can't lose focus on how important it is that the Dem. message gets out there. There is far more similarity in our candidates' messages and much more difference relative to the most reasonable of the Republican positions, than there are differences among them.
I had dinner with a friend who described yet another example of why we need Dem. change in the next election. He is retiring, as is his girlfriend who lives overseas. They cannot be together because she can't qualify for health care coverage here, and would have to pay $1600 PER MONTH for a private policy, and he can't qualify in her country, unless he were to live a long time there. Even if she were to come here with her coverage for several months of the year, if she got sick while here the out of pocket cost would be enormous. So they save up to fly to see each other when they can. I had not thought about this before he explained it to me. It's not the worst example of what is wrong with our health care system, since fortunately he will have Medicare one day and she has coverage in her country, but it is yet another example of a problem.
No matter whom we nominate, we have to keep our eyes on the prize.
