Front Page on Sunday's Washington Post: Women, Latinos Propel Clinton To First Place

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 19 -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton won Nevada's Democratic caucuses on Saturday, handing Sen. Barack Obama a second consecutive setback in a volatile nominating contest that is now poised to become a coast-to-coast battle.

Competing in the first state with significant blocs of minority voters, Clinton won 51 percent of the vote, Obama took 45 percent and former senator John Edwards garnered 4 percent, the result of a colorful and at times chaotic process that included caucuses held in casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. Clinton won almost every casino site and dominated among women and Latino voters, while Obama drew overwhelming support from blacks -- a potential foreshadowing of how the contest could play out when almost two dozen states vote on Feb. 5.

"I guess this is how the West was won," Clinton declared at a victory rally in Las Vegas.

3. Herman, and that is correct.....and one other note of interest.
What HRC also did by winning with the strong support of the hispanic vote, is not put Nebada in play for Nov....also puts new mexico in play as well as Arizona......Kerry lost all three of these western states and if HRC wins all the states that kerry did in 04 and adds these 3 states to the win column, you know what you have? uh huh President elect Hillary Rodham Clinton.

5. It's all a conspiracy and you must fight till your dying breath.
But if you don't know the difference between a Republican and a Democrat, no wonder you're for Obama.

I'm certainly smart enough to know that just because someone says they are something, doesn't make it so.

Clinton did NOTHING to end this war when it mattered and counted.

Conspiracy? Between whom? Give me a break.

The Washington Post is nothing but a puppet for the Bush administration and if Clinton wins...it'll be a puppet for her, since their policies differ so little on the war. It's sad and pathetic to think this once great investigative newspaper has been reduced to printing White House Press releases.

I'll leave you to accuse others of not being smart enough to know the 'difference between a Republican and a Democrat'. It's not difficult to be smart enough to read. You have to be smart enough to question what you read.

Try it sometime.

9. You Must Have Missed the News
In Nevada, Obama won the delegate count earning 13 delegates compared to 12 for Clinton.

10. Every newspaper I've picked up today has the headline: MCCAIN, CLINTON BIG WINNERS
By the way-

“I don’t know why they’re saying that,” said Jill Derby, President of the Nevada State Democratic Party, referring to the Obama campaign. “We don’t select our national delegates the way they’re saying. We won’t select national delegates for a few more months"

12. See Post 6
You have to be smart enough to know what the truth is - not just smart enough to know how to read.

Derby is embarrassed that the popular vote could go one way and the delegate vote another way... not unlike the 2000 national election.

Obama took the delegate vote. Doesn't diminish Clinton's accomplishment.

I'm not anchored to either candidate, but I'm certainly no longer a Clinton fan. I think McCain and her have alot in common.

13. Delegate Count
JILL DERBY'S STATEMENT

(Las Vegas, Nev.) “Today, two out of three Nevadans who caucused chose a Democrat instead of a Republican for president. That is an overwhelming majority vote for a new direction. Just like in Iowa, what was awarded today were delegates to the county convention. No national convention delegates were awarded. The calculations of national convention delegates being circulated are based upon an assumption that delegate preferences will remain the same between now and April 2008. We look forward to our county and state conventions where we will choose the delegates for the nominee that Nevadans support.”

If their preferences remain the same, which is more likely than not, Obama wins.

who registered on the spot.

I was checking out the chatter on statewide liberal blogs and there are comments being posted that an audit of voter registration audit requests for January 19th.

What will be interesting is what will Homeland Security do?

In Reno a few months ago, there was a huge raid of a McDonald's chain owned by one business man. Illegals were using the identities of former employees.

We all laughed because it is widely known that between Bush and Reid, the big Nevada international casino conglomerates will never be raided.

Some of the big owners like neocon Sheldon Adelson want the LV Strip to become a free trade type zone were illegals of all nations could work and live without fear of deportation ...note ...cheap labor.

Harry Reid was really clever the way he pulled off this stunt on the strip! Really clever! We will never know without an audit how many of those people were even residents of Nevada, let alone the USA!

Straight out of a NAFTA rulebook!

(And ...in case anyone wants to call names for my thoughts, I've lived in this state for 19 years and my kids are a quarter hispanic.)
