Has anybody thought about who the Dem POTUS candidates will pick for Cabinet posts?
Back in 2000, the people bought a bill of goods about some down-home good'ol boy from Connecticut Texas, the kind of guy you'd like to have a beer and barbeque with. No mention was made of the predatory capitalists, stooges, cronies, religious fanatics, authoritarians, and others he would appoint to high federal offices. People like Rumsfeld, Gonzales, Meiers, Ashcroft, Brownie, Rove, Bolton, Wolfowitz, the various US Attorneys, Alito, Roberts, that anti-union nut in charge of the Labor Relations board, etc., etc., etc. Although many in the know has guessed the kind of people Bush was likely to hire, if he had made his preferences before the 2000 election it might well have turned out different.

So who will Clinton, Obama, Edwards, or Kucinich pick to be the secretaries and directors of the various Federal departments and agencies? Anybody know, or can make a reasonable guess?

And will those names that come up change people's minds about who to vote for in the primaries?

Just curious. I'm not an "insider", so I have no clue as to who might be, say, Obama's Attorney General or Edwards' Secreatary of State. But I think the issue should be discussed.

2. Richardson should be picked for Secretary of State
since he didn't get enought traction to be President.

3. probably a good choice for any Dem President.
Wes Clark for SecDef
I'd like a scientist with admin experiences for Sec of Energy.

7. Clark can't do SecDef yet
You have to have 10 years between military service and the civilian Pentagon leadership.

Which is kinda silly, if you ask me. Who would you rather have in charge of the Pentagon, someone who actually knows how the military works, and how war works (if need be, which hopefully won't be)

Or some goddamned imbecile like Donald Dumbsfeld.

4. John Edwards should be somewhere in the Administration
I know some of you say President, but if not, I'd love to see him as AG.

8. President or AG would probably be the only jobs Edwards would accept.
He couldn't go after corporatists as a Vice President, for example.

5. I think about it all the time.
When looking at the candidates, pay close attention to their supporters, and to those who suddenly LEAP out of the woodwork with a dramatic announcement of SUPPORT. Also look hard at which supporters actually get off their asses and STUMP for the candidate.

Now, I honestly don't see Oprah being named as Ambassador to Anywhere, or FCC chairwoman in an Obama administration, but hey--ya never know. However, I could see John Kerry bailing out of the Senate and taking SECSTATE. I could also see Wes Clark getting SECDEF in a Clinton Administration, or Bill Richardson being selected as her VP.

Kucinich won't be picking anything but a Fantasy Cabinet. I don't think about him at all.

Edwards HAS TO WIN SC to stay viable--if he pulls it off, I'll refocus on speculation about his cabinet...

6. I wish THAT question would come up in the debates, but....
the more I think about it, the more I realise it probably won't. I actually asked each of our candidates in emails, who they would chose for the SCOTUS and who would they nominate for cabinet positions. Of course, I never got an answer from any of them. As I think about why, I guess that would be promising a position to people who either may not accept, or the candidate might change their mind between now and when they get elected, and that would really make enemies. Imagin if you were publically named for a position and then the offer was never made.

I think we need to depend on history. Most Dems have named QUALIFIED people to positions of power. I'm sure there's still friendships & contributors involved in the decisions, but past Dem Presidents must have more capable friends and contributors. Shrub has been the WORST! It seems all his friends have no idea what the hell they're doing!
