Randi STOP!
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 05:29 PM by Phred42
I've listening to randi making excuses and doing her damnedest to spin Obama's Reagan comments for a couple of hours now. I had to turn her off. I couldn't stand it any longer - I"m dizzy.

If it takes THAT much triangulating to interpret what he said.......

"I think what he meant was....." over and over and over.

I just watch it again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFLuOBsNMZA and it still sounds to me like he is praising Reagans policies.

have another listen.

Obama has at least split the hairs well enough that his statement can come back later and claim he meant just about anything by it

6. Hell, anyone with common sense knew what obama was trying
to say in that interview, but it backfired on his ass....BIG TIME.....why it backfired is because the ones that got hurt the most under the eight years of reagan were blacks, latinos and poor whites.....and I guess since obama and wife began making big bucks he might of forgot how reagan's policy hurt the blacks.....what? He is now a compassionate liberal, again?

12. BenDavid, what did Bill Clinton mean when he said "The era of Big Government is over"?
Sounds kinda Reaganesque, dontcha think?

Obama wants to change the trajectory of the country. Whether or not he can do that is debatable, but we can all see that Bill Clinton's presidency was pretty much a continuation, albeit a milder one, of Reaganomics. Welfare reform, NAFTA, deregulation, media consolidation, etc. etc.

7. Then you're still wrong.
He was NOT praising Reagan's policies. He was only acknowledging a skill.

9. If you'll notice, Obabm suggest that Reagan was CORRECTing
what came before Reagan.

Inferring that Reagan Corrected anything seems to me to over the top

8. Do you think that Obama
actually meant that he supported Reagan's policys?

Does any reasonable person on this board really think that Obama = Reagan?

I'll be honest, I'm an "Obamite" because he appeals to me on a personal level that I haven't experienced from a Democratic presidential candidate since Big Dog.

I have a problem with Hillary's IWR vote and her Kyl/Lieberman vote but when the rubber meets the road, if she is the candidate I'll hold my nose and vote for her.

As for Obama, I'm sure like any politician he has his warts but at least those warts don't include giving Bush carte blanche to bomb innocents.

14. Of course no one really believes it... But it's like the "Support the troops" spin
If you don't support the war, well clearly you don't support the troops.

It's all a bunch of crazy spin, that's getting out of control. I've noticed a group of about 5 or 6 people that constantly post this stuff, and go in to all the threads to stir it up more. There's no basis in it. No, Obama doesn't think Reagan's policies were great. He was speaking about the movement that Reagan fostered. A movement that lasted beyond his two terms, and one more for his worthless VP. And carried in to congress after Bill got elected. Then bill f--ks up and here we are with ding bat as a president. I'd like to hope that the members here had some sense, but they'd rather just sling a bunch of mud to see what sticks.

10. Nobody wants to talk about Obama's 2006 interview with Meet The Press
Why only talk about the 2007 words? Answer: Because those were milder words. The 2006 are even worse. Then, Obama said Reagan was a great president:

But I think, when I think about great presidents, I think about those who transform how we think about ourselves as a country in fundamental ways...And, you know, there are circumstances in which, I would argue, Ronald Reagan was a very successful president, even though I did not agree with him on many issues, partly because at the end of his presidency, people, I think, said, “You know what? We can regain our greatness. Individual responsibility and personal responsibility are important.” And they transformed the culture and not simply promoted one or two particular issues.

11. She does make the point
that we will be defending a lot of over the head inanities like a bunch of suckers. Pols under pressure can't learn lessons at this late date. We will have to be interpreting Obama as he leans more soothingly toward the center right and over-philosophizes too much in public. The use of quips, memes and repetitive drivel shouldn't be the only strategy, but there is no time to relax and be revealing with so much at stake. Cripes, talk about football once in a while or something and instinct would tell you NOT to betray your favorite too much. I hate to say it, but I prefer Obama vague and high road. When he slips it will be all the news and all of the Dems bickering over it. The difference between advoidance(the GOP won't let you) and being honest and direct has little bearing on the problem of not understanding how BAD things are really. Most of the top Dems and their blessed advisers are still babes in the woods when it comes to politics versus despotism. Other nations have pols who know the score. They maybe are as powerless as DK but they know and they act in ways that would make our party pass the smelling salts.

Some sense of what we are up against would be nice because even the so-called knowledgeable progressives keep bouncing off the GOP backboards on cue, always on weak defense. The MSM game is crooked and we keep playing their game.

13. Wake up.
Reagan changed America.

Reagan is still popular with MANY people.

Barack is talking to moderates & independents who will be voting on Feb 5 and on Nov 4 - the very same people Dems will need to win.

17. Yep.
This uproar is such nonsense. I was listening to Randi and she is absolutely 100% correct, and she's no conservative by any stretch. Hillary especially is being a total disingenuous hypocrite for slamming him. If she wins the primary just watch how quick she'll turn into Reagan Lite on the campaign trail in order to get those same moderates and independents.

18. Yes, but Randi is in love with Obama
When she came back from vacation, she talked about him for 2 days about how wonderful a speaker he was. None of his policies, but only about his speeches. Tells me a lot.

She criticizes all the candidates.

Maybe you're thinking of Steph Miller?

23. Nope, had to turn off today again
She apparently thinks there only 2 candidates too. BTW, can't stand Steph Miller.

When she came back from vacation she almost had an orgasm talking about Obama for 2 days. Then the next day I think she got some nasty emails because she talked about all the candidates for awhile. But, it looks like she's back with Obama and Hillary. I don't know, she was comparing them to some football team today. Had to turn her off.

She got the message re her nastiness, I guess, but she's still irritating.
