Here comes Florida: "The agreement is off"
Howard Wolfson just walked out of a debate-prep session into the lobby of a local Hilton and was handed a phone. It was Representative Corrine Brown of Florida.

The Congresswoman was apparently upset about the Obama campaign’s decision to air television ads in Florida—she was watching TV when one of the ads came on--despite a pledge signed by the Democratic candidates not to campaign there to punish the state for violating Democratic National Committee rules.

“The ban is off – the agreement is off,” Wolfson said.

He listened for a beat as the Congresswoman told him of her desire to invite Hillary for some last-minute appearances in Florida, and he said, “Then you can say, ‘I hope that Senator Clinton comes down here.’”

35. Even if delegates are seated, they can still lose their delegates.
The DNC can deny the candidates their delegates for early campaigning. As I read it, the DNC could decide to seat the delegates for the state, but still punish those candidates they consider in violation of the timing provision by denying them their delegates.

A presidential candidate who campaigns in a state where the state party is in
violation of the timing provisions of these rules, or where a primary or caucus is
set by a state’s government on a date that violates the timing provisions of these
rules, may not receive pledged delegates or delegate votes from that state.
Candidates may, however, campaign in such a state after the primary or caucus
that violates these rules.

Matters.
And I also think the delegates will be seated. It's insane not to.
Who wants to throw Michigan and Florida to the Reps in the general? Not me.

it gives her even more momentum going into Feb. 5.

The second he ran an ad, this became contested.

8. The Hillary people were just looking for an excuse
Next they plan on carpetbombing the state with Spanish ads, then in the convention push the party into seating the delegates from both Florida and Michigan.

This is the start of the highjacking of the nomination, its only going to get nastier from on out.

23. I can only hope that no other Democrat would even stoop to thinking
about running ads in Spanish. What an unfair way to influence an election! That would be a direct appeal for votes and an unfair advantage to campaigns that don't have political machines well oiled enough to find someone who can speak in Spanish!

What a joke. This isn't an "excuse" -- it's Obama breaking his word. What an ahole that guy is. At this point I wouldn't vote for him for dogcatcher. I swear I have never sat out a GE and not voted for the Dem nominee. I held my nose hard and voted for Kerry. But if Obama gets the nod I just might have to sit this one out for the first time in 29 years of voting.

18. Winning Florida has a special cachet, even without delegates
because of the role it played in the 2000 election in particular. Democrats continually think of Florida as a possible pick up state. Whoever wins that primary, especially if the taboo over it being not contested is removed, gains some real momentum from that. Democrats want a winner for Florida, and it can be assumed that Florida Democrats are the ones who best understand what type of Democrat can run and win in Florida in 2008.

to campaign, and will then hold up its hands saying, "wasn't me!"

The campaign mgr will go on to say, "Even though we love the endorsement of these ex-gays, and even had one on our payroll for our SC event, we still love the queers. Why, I'm sending a dose of hope to the gay community as we speak. The Hope express is leaving the station. WOO WOO! Get on the sanctity train my gay brothers, lesbian sisters and transgendered others - just be sure to keep your identity a secret. 22. Corrine Brown is from Jacksonville. Candidates often buy
the Jax and Tallahassee tv markets to reach southern Georgia. I am not saying this is what the Obama campaign is doing but a clear evidence of a violation of the agreement would be if the ads are running in markets south of I-10.
That said, I have thought it was only a matter of time before Florida came into play. The ultimate resolution of how many Florida delegates are allowed to vote and for whom may blow the party asunder. I pray otherwise, but a campaign that goes to all the way to a Convention that is decided by votes that are awarded by rules that are changed after the fact would be a recipe for disaster.

25. Obama bought a NATIONAL ad. Not a Florida targetted ad.
That is a very different point.

“Both national cable networks told us it would be impossible for us to run advertising nationally that excluded only Florida. For that reason we consulted with the South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler who told us unequivocally she did not consider this to be in violation of pledge made to the early states,” said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.

50. Why would they? It was a national ad buy.
The Clinton campaign is acting like their noses are out of joint. They will end up winning, with Carville, and Penn, and Wolfson, and all the old school right back in the mix. And Harold Ford as the new chairman.

They don't have a leg to stand on about this issue, though.

Obama had permission to do it.

Why should the love of Dean/party transcend their right to vote?
I liked dean a lot as chairman. Until I learned what he did to Michigan & Florida. It's sad when RNC takes BETTER care of THEIR voters than DNC - this deal deserved those buttons - thanks for the pic! I'll post it in many places! Starting now (I especially love the "Size does matter one)

To Democrats who think it is funny that their state leaders lied, mocked the chairman, used the media the wrong way....and refuse to tell the truth to the people of Florida.

If you think those buttons are funny, it tells that you think tactics of humiliation, lying, and acting like the other states are not important at all.....are all ok.

In my mind they are not.

I am surprised you think it is funny. And disappointed.

I don't really care which cog in the party machine blew up - the election is screwn - and for all the wrong reasons. The supremacy of Iowa and NH. The crazy caucases - with their public and unequal vote. it's all wrong - and can't blame those local Floridians for it all. There have been screw-ups at many levels - so, the boss gets to be responsible for it all, Not such a big stretch from where I sit.
Kinda like blaming the Bush for the war - even if they told him only after they decided.

53. GOP gets half.
Florida blew off the DNC, refused to listen. Dean called some in Florida to negotiate and warn them. So did others from the DNC. For months and months.

When he did that, the ones he called..one was named Gelber..told the media and then laughed at him in public.

There is simply no excuse at all for this having gone on. The Florida party spokesperson said in March 2006 that they were right on board with it....meaning working with Jeb's house speaker buddy, Marco Rubio.

"Florida Democrats are all for it"...March 2006. All for the early primary that far ahead.
