17. It was funny. And the question itself was stupid.
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 12:56 AM by FlyingSquirrel
What's he supposed to do with it? The clear objective of the question was to trip the candidates up and inject race into the debate on MLK day in front of a mostly black audience. It was a hideous question. He did the best thing possible with it as far as lightening up the situation and attempting to give himself more "street cred" with those blacks who accuse him of not being one of them - without alienating white voters at the same time. It was such a good response it made me wonder whether he'd rehearsed it in advance.

But this thread is of course also meant to do something other than advance intelligent discourse..........................

:freak:

Hey a funny thing happened: After I posted this, we left DefCon2. So now I had to unignore the author of the thread to look at it again. Such is life ;)

11. All I know is bill clinton has got inside obama's head and is
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 12:30 AM by BenDavid
messing with him. Again, get obama on a stage and let him give a speech he is damn good, but get him in a one to one setting or like tonight there are times he comes across leaving one to stratch their heads, but because Bill has got inside the psyche of obama at times tonight he was incoherent especially about the health plan, the credit card vote...

HRC was playing before a national audience tonight and not so much the voters of sc. she was looking at those 2/5 voters in those big key states and I would say based upon what i saw and heard from hrc and obama hrc will increase her lead....

I must commend John Edwards for being the true gentleman tonight. He did notlet hrc slide nor did he obama and he did himself some good tonight.....I do not know what monies edwards raises for the poor that he proudly is involved in but if I were hrc I would offer him the sect. of health and human service where he could take his expertise and change the whole damn thing and make it a better department......

12. He pronounced "brother" "brotha"
I've also heard him imitating southern praching at his speeches in SC. What I cannot figure out is how a guy with a white mom and an East African father winds up speaking with a non-standard English inflection. Most people pick up their mother's accents. When Senator Obama drops the second "r" in "brother," is it a total affectation, like Bush's Texas accent, or is he for real?

13. Um, saying Brotha is not a southern thing
I hear plenty of Northern Black people say it like that.

18. Don't know if it's real or fake, but it earned him some "cred",
which translates into votes. So as long as that's working for him...
